New to MINI and looking to buy

So I have been thinking about adding another car to my fleet. I have my heart set on a 2007 mini cooper s model or newer. In my area there are some really low mileage cars at a good affordable price. I know nothing about these cars and I'm just looks some info and common issues before I pull the trigger, I currently own a 03 crown vic and 02 mustang gt.(very big mustang enthusiast ) Here is one car I have my eye on http://www.eakinkia.com/details/used...84213/68229505 it doesnt show the price but its going for $15,988. Like I said I am looking to learn and feel like I just walked on to a new plant

Check out the motoringfile.com buyer's guide. That's a great place to start.

Good luck!

Just a suggestion...this one is probably out of warranty really soon (time)...3YR/36 MOS...it may have the extended maintenance plan (check on it).

The 2007 is start of the new model - R56. The R56 S is turbo'ed while the earlier S is supercharged. The later model get great gas milage with more power; great combination. Basically the car is solid, strong and well built; very German/BMW like but with a British flair. I have an '07 S and love it, but that is not to say that I didn't have a few new-model issues such as a sun roof that sticks when it is hot, an ice block that forms in the intake manifold when it is really cold (~10 deg or colder) and the high pressure fuel pump that went bad. Other than that, not much in the way of problems. I drive it everywhere, autocross and track it. So it is not lightly used. The issues that I have had have been fixed by the dealer without question under warrantee (although somethings took a bit before BMW figured them out). However, the S with its power tends to eat tires but that could be a right foot problem.

As for comparison to a Crown Vic or Mustang, you might not want to go back to driving them after driving the Mini. However, you may want to double check the car you posted - transmission is listed as "n/a" - you won't go far without one

You can also look in the Market Place here on NAM for Mini sales. Also, consider what you want to do with the car. Is it just going to be a daily driver -dd- or do you plan to do something like autocross or track it? You may or may not want the sun roof (it lets sun in all of the time and it adds weight) or you may want to look for one that has a factory LSD. Go to the MiniUSA web page and build one just so you can see the options that are out there (well almost - the LSD is no longer available). Then look for a nice used one.

Have fun looking and hope you buy one. The varieties are almost endless. Poke around on NAM a little and you will get an idea of what people think about their Minis and the problems they have had. But just remember, people tend to complain more than they complement.

This one looks like it has a 2-spoke steering wheel, did '07's have 2 spoke steering wheels?

Yup,
but this looks like a base model - not the multi function steering wheel and, also, base model heating and AC.

Means no seat heating, no auto a/c and no cruise control.

The lack of cruise control would be a negative for me, but a seat heater in Texas think that isn't a big deal, the auto A/C doesn't get any colder than the normal setup, A/C may be marginal for Texas, depends on how cold you like it.
