Does anyone have their iPad working with the USB connector?

Mine goes into a frenzy saying "ACCESSORY NOT COMPATIBLE WITH IPAD" when cable is plugged in. Impossible to use.

Does anybody have it working through USB, or do the three people that are crazy enough to have an iPad in their car just use AUX?

Thanks

Doesn't work in my Audi either. Quite possible that it is Apple, not MINI/Audi, where the issue is.

There are 2 mini Ipod adapters - the nano uses a lower voltage that the regular Ipod - Mini of stwerling replaced mine under wareenty because it wasn't compatable with the Nano

I've had limited success just now: if I used it with just the AUX plug, WITHOUT using the USB plug, it worked. No track control, but hey, at least it output sound, which is more than it did before.

Haven't tried the iPad yet, I use a USB memory stick so I don't have to leave the iPad in the car. I'll try it.

That message is common with all late generation (iphone 3Gs and up, Ipad) - it actually refers to that it can't charge the devices. If you have Ipod "kit" in the car it still work but not charge. There are some people who say it does charge but very, very slowly.

There is "disagreement" as to whose fault (Apple or car manufactures) but I would guess Apple changed or tightened the requirements and most cars don't meet it. There are several threads on this forum about it.

See I don't think that's the case. There are two messages in play here: "this accessory is not OPTIMIZED for this device" (which is what the iPhone 4 says - yet works perfectly fine, including charging) and "this accessory is not COMPATIBLE", which is only with the iPad and that fails to function completely.

A note to all of you with iPads. It seems that all the aftermarket manufacturers are having the same type problems with the iPad and their iPhone/iPod connections.

Just read thru forums about JVC, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, Alpine, Clarion.

They all seem to not recognize the iPad on a regular iPod/iPhone connector or dock connected to their head units.

So it would seem that yet again Apple has done something to the connection protocol that is not compatible with the older version of hardware.

Now hopefully Apple will change this when iOS4.2 comes out. But I would not hold my breath over it as they seem to break things more rather than fix them.

the iPad requires a higher voltage/watt charge than the other devices, that's part of the issue. if you try to plug an iPad into an older MacPro or MacBook, it won't charge cause the USB port doesn't put out enough wattage.
