Just as the post states, I would love to upgrade my current HK system with a set of speakers. However, I was wondering what the issues may be with attempting this. Thanks

 

Well, I've never done it (the HK system in my Mini is just fine, thank you, when one considers that an automobile, especially on that is running and moving down the road, is a lousy audiophile environment). However, I would imagin that it's a matter of fit so that additional cutting and driling is unecessary. Talk with a pro and you may find that there are some speakers that will drop right in.

 

Apparently the HK speakers are of non-standard impedance (2 ohm vs. 4 ohm, IIRC) so you'd have to find similar speakers. Wait for replies from the audiophiles, but I think it would be tough going.

 

You need 2Ohm speakers and there aren't a lot out there... GBMINI has some great information on the HK system on his site.

Seach his site and you will find even more. Just curious but why do you think that the HK speakers are bad? They are actually a very nice speaker to be honest.

 

Infinity Kappa's are 2 ohm speakers. What could be a problem is the tweeters that they use are very large. You would need to make a bracket to make them fit. I haven't looked at the wiring in the doors but you could possibly not use the tweeter and add a 2/3 way speaker in the lower door.

 

Rears are dual coilovers as well. That could also be an issue...
