Just trying to clarify. I did a search & saw where several
folks have gotten LOANER cars from RS.
We're making an appt to drop off the wife's car to get some mechanical stuff & some paint problems resolved. Ian at the dealership says they don't do loaners yet Ian's name is mentioned as handing over the keys to a '03 Honda for a loaner.
Any definitive answers? Keep in mind I haven't been doing the dealing here the wife has. I tend to be a little more firm & insistive.
Our problems:
Weezer CD stuck in HK player.
paint falling off/bubbling above foglight
paint oxidizing above drivers door.
Stumble on takeoff when climbing our driveway.

I've read paint stuff seems to take "forever" at RS sooo I'm curious~
Thanks,
Cris

I've gotten loaners from Ian. Maybe because I'm not in their shuttle range. I live in Longmont.

When you make your service appointment you need to ask them to make it when you can get a loaner car.

When service was in the BMW area I had a Honda Civic loaner a couple of times and a BMW 3-series once as a loaner.

Now that service is run out of the MINI building they have a couple MINI COOPER CVT loaner cars. I had one of those as well.

Like I said, the key is to ASK them nicely to schedule your appointment when a loaner car is available.

Thanks Folks! I appreciate the input.
I'll ask nicely (while carrying a big stick).
Maybe my wife didn't ask when a loaner would be available..
Talking about being out of the shuttle range, we're further North
than Longmont so I'll be polite... (hey I can try!).

Thanks again,
Cris

i'm not sure what their offical policy is, but i have recieved a loaner car from RS. back in May, when my power steering went out, they had to order parts from Jolly Ole England, and i ended up with a Civic for 4 days.

but i had to insist on this - as my car was 3 weeks old at the time, i told them there was no way i wasn't driving off the lot.

Hello,

That's what I did when I made my appointment. I'm taking my 04' MCS in on the 30th to have the factory alarm installed and hopefully will get one of the CVTs for the day.

I called a few weeks ago and asked for a loaner while the work was done. When I called, Ian only had two days (the 24th and the 30th) when a loaner was available through the end of the year.

Ian's not willing to accomodate my wife. He's telling her the
"policy" of the dealership has changed as of Dec. 10th-12thish.
Now they'll kick in towards a rental car or some crap...
Also said they might swing something if you purchased your MINI from them.

My luck with RS continues (see my dealer rating rant).

I'll call Ian tomorrow (I've still got some doggy sedatives leftover).
Sounds like it's time to throw the BS flag (loss of down & ten yard penalty!)...

Has anybody had a loaner car since mid Dec.? Did you buyy your car from them??

Cris

After having 6 BMW's I can tell you that it's not unusual for the dealer to not offer a loaner if you didn't purchase the vehicle from them. I know it's not what you want to hear ... but some dealers see this as a service to their loyal customers (read ... bought it from them). Having been on both sides of the fence I can understand your frustration. It was very frustrating when I bought a CPO car from the BMW dealer and then they informed me that I had to buy a NEW car from them to get a loaner and a used one didn't count. They did change their tune when I pointed out that my 'used' car cost more than a lot of their 'new' cars on the lot. It took me 3 years of working with the dealer, expressing my displeasure with their policy (constructively) before I started to get loaner cars.

Bottom line is that you will need to work with them since they hold the keys to your happiness I've dealt with Ian many times on many issues and have always found him accomodating and a pleasure to work with. I wish you good luck.

Cheers

Geoff

Geoff you're not cheering me up here at all.
My own personal peeve is I gave them a deposit way back
(I think I was number 164) & never heard from them again.
I got my deposit back (from early '02) in early '03.
We tried again to buy a car in late '03 but couldn't wait
the 4 to 6 months we were quoted again (my wife's daily driver had been
totalled out (she's fine!))....

When will Colorado get a second dealership??
Does Wyoming have one?
Basically we're not thrilled that the paint has decided to start falling off of the car
& it's holding my CD for hostage in it's trap like jaws~ It's not our fault...

Oh well, such is life.

That very well could be their policy? I just had the factory alarm installed this morning and the '04 CVT below is the car I got as a loaner. I did purchase my '04 MCS from them last month and had pre-paid for the alarm.

This is the 2nd time I've dealt with Ian and he has been nothing but super nice to me each time. Maybe I'm lucky but I haven't had any bad experiences yet with RS.

btw: I liked driving the CVT. Missed the power of my S but the ride was quiet and smooth. It had 1200 miles on it, came with the premium and sport packages, and had the cloth sport seats which were very comfy (I have leather in my S).

Sounds like you want something for nothing. Great in theory, but very difficult in practice. Generally if there is something warranty related and it will take several days to fix, a dealership courtesy car should be called for. However in most circumstances, about all you can hope for is either a drop-off / pick-up or a special price on a rental. From the sounds of your problems, I don't think overnight warranty work is called for. Get a rental, ask for a drop-off or wait it out at the dealership.

Exactly what I was hoping for~ I've read on this site that paint repairs @ RS is like poo thru a tube.
Guess we'll enjoy our discounted rental on the DaeWoo or whatever it is.....

It's slightly outside your timeframe -- but I had a MINI loaner car on November 28th (I also live way north), but my car was done within the day. As others advised, I had to schedule the appointment for when they had a loaner (courtesy car) available. Ian's usually pretty affable, wonder where the pressure to not give you a loaner is coming from...?

Oh yeah, I did get my Cooper S from Schomp, and this was a return visit on a warranty issue.
