Choke connections to single carb - need images

Hi folks. Had some work done on my car recently and went to start it the other day and the choke handle came way too far out. Upon further investigation, I discovered the choke cable detached from the carb (rotator cam?) and a stretched out spring coming through the firewall with the choke cable ( on the engine side). Not sure where the spring came from, unless it was between firewall and console. Anyway, I have reattached the choke as best as I can recall and it works, but would like to see some good closeups if anyone has some shots. The screw that holds the choke wire to the cam was attached to the dangling spring and I left the spring there after I reconnected the choke. Is there some sort of keeper that fits on the wire to prevent it from slipping out, or is it kept in place with pressure from the screw?

Here's a couple of close-ups of the carb linkage connection. It looks like the bottom of the screw tightens the wire into the hole and keeps everything together. My linkage moves freely and the wire doesn't slide inside the hole.

Hope it helps,
Jeff

I'm taking a guess here but I'll bet that somewhere along the life of this car the choke didn't release when the dash **** was pushed back in. So the owner added a spring at the choke on the carb to assist pulling the choke to off. And that spring broke or was broken by your mechanic.

There is a spring on the carb (choke shaft) that should perform this function. If it does not, try cleaning out the gunk and corrosion or if necessary replace the broken spring.

My guess anyway

p.s. there are many different 1 carb set ups . . . I've a single HIF-6 which looks close to the pictures posted . . .
