Using "Painless Wiring" on a Mini?
Has anyone used "Painless Wiring" on a Mini? As I am tearing down my Mini and noticed alot of wires with torn insulators and connections that are all rusty. Just wondering what issues would come up if I just replaced all of the wiring with a DIY kit like Painless. I know certain connectors would have to be crimped or soldered back together.
Any thoughts?

The painless generic kits are over priced in my opinion. I have a Kwikwire 8 circuit economy kit that I am about to put in and the build qulity is great. All the wires are labled the entire length of the wire and I'm sure a child could work with it. It's just that straight forward. My kit was only $200 shipped.

I haven't started but I see no potential hold ups as it is a very simple electronic system.

Thanks for the advice! I will look into this other kit as well. It is true, with these old simple cars, 8 circuits is really all I need.
Please let me know how the install goes and if you run into any problems!

Yes, I did. I replaced my Lucas 2 fuse harness with a quality 12 circuit Painless harness #10102. I replaced all of the bullet terminals with weather-pak style connectors and I couldn't be happier. I have a fuse block mounted under the LHS dash.
Yes, the price is higher than other options, but if low cost is what you're after, build your own. I've done that on other vehicles with good success. What do you get for the extra $$ in a painless harness? A quality fuse block with each wire clearly marked (silk screened) with the source and destination to make installation and (later) troubleshooting _much_ easier. You should really consider the Painless option. I've never regretted it.
That being said, if you're wanting to keep the Mini 'in the family' you should consider buying a stock replacement Lucas wiring harness.

Good luck,

Oh, and you should check out this thread (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...n-signals.html) - 4th reply from the end. I uploaded my wiring cheat sheet for another user and you might find it useful.

Awesome! Thank you very much for the advice. I have used Painless Wiring before on my Chevelle, so I know the quality is there. Budget is tight, so other options are always welcome, but if I have the money, then Painless is the way to go!
Thanks guys!

You get all of that with the KwikWire kit at a lower price and quality tht is on par wit Painless. You just have a decent upcharge for generic kits with Painless just for the name IMO.
