"Preset Increments?"

I have a 2003 stock radio/cd unit in my 02 'S, and I ma frustrated with the reception on AM channels. Here is my problem:

I live in the SF Bay Area and want to listen to 740 AM, yet since manual increments of 9 mkhz, i can only get 738 AM or 747 AM!! I want to hear 1590 AM, not 1593AM or 1584 AM. These are great news stations, yet are too fuzzy to listen to.

Is there a way to specifically tune my radio to receive an exact station?

Thank you for any help!

I have no problem with those frequencies. You're letting the radio auto-scan, and it is skipping past because the signal is too low for the radio to detect. Manual tune by pressing M before using up/down buttons, and then you can set a preset for easier access. If you don't have the radio owner's manual, download it here.

If you listen to 740 AM (KCBS) in the Bay Area, try their FM broadcast on 106.9 which has better sound quality (and for me I avoid having to flip AM/FM when going to NPR and my other regular stations that are all on FM).

I am now listening to KCBS on FM! Thanks!

Yet, I am NOT scanning automatically, on MAN mode only. Every time I press the > button on MAN mode, each in single press is in increments of 9kmhz.

Example on AM: 729, 738, 747, 756

Frustrating!!

Did you somehow get a European unit in your car? IIRC they use different frequencies.

I think Eric is correct. I Googled, and AM channel spacing in Europe is 9 kHz. There is a procedure to select the configuration. Look here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-european.html

Sounds like the radio was replaced at some point and never set to US spec's.
