Open door or with dead battery

I have a 2008 MCS. I have noticed that when the door is closed the window rolls up about a quarter of an inch. I have wondered what would happen if the battery were to die. How would you open the doors if they are locked? Even if you tried to open the lock with a slim trim, the window is jammed on the top. That said the other way to get in the car to open the hood would be from the hatch, but that is also electric.

Really curious if this has happened to anyone or if the window motor died and you are in the car,how would you open the door without breaking the window.

Use the key inside the fob to open the drivers door.

Is this mechanical? I noticed when I try it it electrically unlocks everything. Also will the window drop the quarter of an inch to open without power?

Interesting question. If the battery is completely dead, sure, you can use your metal key to unlock the door. But - will the glass break since its not lowered by the power window function?

Someone must know the answer!

The Sales Associate who sold me my car said the metal key was for getting in the car if it had a dead battery, so the hood could be opened to give it a jump.

I've seen cars at the dealer with dead batteries. The window does not drop and the door opens with no apparent issue. As always: YMMV

The window clears the seal even if it doesn't drop. Nothing to worry about! I had to use my car for a couple of weeks with no dipper due to the window module forgetting its programming.

I believe the reason the door window normally drops about 10 mm when opening the door and raises back up after it is closed is to address the air tightness of the car. If the battery is dead, it won't be a problem to open the door as strobeyprobey stated but you might need to somewhat slam the door if the battery was dead with the window glass all the way up due to the compression of the air in the cabin. The normal operation of the window dipping allows the door to close with a solid "thunk" without slamming the door.
