R50/53 Torx Tools
Torx Tools
I just recently bought a used 2002 MCS. I'm wanting to do a few mods and general maintenance items on the car. However, since it is a German made auto I'm noticing a lot of TORX bolts and fasteners all over. I'm not wanting to waste a lot of money on multiple wrenches. Does anyone have a good place where I can find a multi-tool where all I have to do is exchange the bits?
A lot of cars use Torx fasteners nowadays. Harbor Freight is a good source of cheap tools for the auto hobbyist.

There may even be a store near you.

p.s. MINIs are made in the UK, not Germany

Of course high end professional brands like Snap-On are always an option, and preferred by some, but you might like the lesser expensive options below:
High Quality Snap-On: http://tinyurl.com/296k2nb
Middle Quality Sears: http://tinyurl.com/2g4cure
Lower Quailty Harbor Freight - http://tinyurl.com/26kv8w6
To each their own when it comes to buying tools and which ones to pick...
Best of luck! tvanhouten

a hand set with swapable bits is fine for the small stuff and I recommend it - I have a couple. But remember if you decide to do rotors down the line you'll also need a larger size - a T-50 - and so a couple of larger socket sizes are handy too. I picked up a set of 3 sockets: 40, 45, and 50 at HF and have been using them for years and rotors on several MINIs now.
In addition to the places mentioned for tools: ACE hardware, LOWES and Home Despots. Most chain auto parts will alos have anything you'd need automotive wize: PEP Boys, AutoZone etc

If you have a 1/4" socket set with a screw driver handle, just get a set of Torx drivers to fit the socket set from OSH. Not all the expensive and you avoid the hassle of having the insert drop out of a regular socket all the time. 'Not that expensive.

For the big stuff, you want quality and only buy it once or have lifetime replacement warranty.
T50 in 1/2 drive for rotors and T30 for the bumper cover is a GoodThing (tm) to have. You don't necessarily need all sizes in between.
