My Turn for a Dumb Question

Actually, I keep coming up with dopey questions....

I've had my 2010 for 22 days now and just realized I don't have rain sensitive wipers. Is there a way to get them installed after the fact? Is there an after market solution? Up on the mountain where I live we have lots of misty mornings and I also find myself behind trucks throwing up spray as the snow melts. Those moisture detecting wipers on my 2008 were a Godsend.

Anything can be done if you want to spend the money.

I think it will prohibitively expensive to do. Besides the sensor, you also need a different windshield and probably other silly parts that I don;t know about

train your index finger!

When you see rain it triggers sensors in your brain reading "wet"

and your finger shall move!

You know I used to think that too, but they really do work very well.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't think the Rain Sensor works all that well in my MINI. My previous 2 cars were BMWs and it worked *really* well. Perhaps it has to do with the angle of the windshield. I often find the speed of the wipers is totally not in sync with the rainfall and I'm forced to turn the whole thing off - it's like it gets overly excited and starts wiping really fast and just doesn't want to stop.

The other half of this option - the Auto Headlamps - is one of my favorites though.

My suggestion would be to apply some Rain-X or Aquapel to the windshield and save your money.

I had it on my 08 MINI and it was fantastic. Perfect for the spray coming off much taller vehicles. But since it sounds prohibitively expensive, I'll just use this as an excuse to get a 2012.

I have Rain-X on my windshield. I drove in the rain all day yesterday and didn't have to turn n the wipers once.

It's way cheaper than rain sensing wipers.

I've had these (https://www.thewiperstore.com/triple...er-blades.html) on all my cars for the past 8 years and can't stand to drive a car without them. Keeps your windshield crystal clear in the heaviest downpours on low settings. After a good storm or two of use they will mimic the results of RainX on your windshield.
