New OEM MINI Short(y) Antenna

Now this is sweet!

http://twitter.com/MINIParts/status/23249198962

MINI has two P/N's, both R50/53 and R56.

I think MINIParts is offering these at a special price, but not sure.

Very nice! Where are the part numbers?

They sure took their time with it. Finally a new antenna for the R50/R53, which ended production almost 4 years ago!

Ha! Didn't think of it that way. Worth the wait, though!

I haven't seen the P/N. Perhaps contact MINIParts for it.

BTW, fan of Golden Boy Pizza, by chance?

I didn't recognize the name but when I looked it up, yes we (my family) have had slices they sold from their street window during the North Beach Street Festival. It's a 20 minute walk over a big hill from our house, a bit too far to go out for a casual pizza.

@howsoonisnow1985,

Talk to Colin at MINI of Ontario for R50/53. He's got the part number.

I just picked mine up today from Passport MINI of Alexandria. It came out to $34 with tax. Yeah, it was a little more expensive than all the aftermarket offerings out there, but at least it's backed up by MINI. I'm happy with it.

Yes, but interestingly the R56 part came with 3 different sizes of screws depending on which on you need. R50 p/n is 65 20 2 179 726 i believe.

Can't locate a shorty for my R50, the part number didn't match anything from the dealer. If anyone comes across a shorty for an R50 please drop me a line.

Maybe you can try the PN for the R56. Like I said, it comes with a few different screws so one might fit for the R50.

Colin at MINI of Ontario confirmed that there are adapters in the box for both the R50 and R56.

You can ask him directly:

Just installed mine! No reception loss except for really distant weaker stations but lots of compliments!

Does the sport antenna have the same plastic like finish of the shark fin piece too? I want to get a short antenna but I want the finish to match unlike some of the glossy aftermarket ones.

the oem shorty is not glossy, you'll be happy with it. In the pic above with the shorty and oem side-by-side, you can see they are the same finish. I also don't like any of the antennas that are gloss, anodized, chrome, polished, etc.

Awesome thanks!
I'll have to shoot up to MINI of Peabody today, they are only $29 there.

Installed the OEM shorty antenna and lost my HD radio. Had to revert back to the stock antenna...
