Navigation & Audio New OEM MINI Short(y) Antenna
Guess it depends on where you live but I still have HD with my shorty antenna. I really did not notice any loss of signal strength.
Took the big antenna off after I bought this car in October. Reception wasn't too badly affected either. today cleaning out the boot, found the antenna and had a brilliant idea: how about I just cut the long part off from the shorty!
Went to the shed, sawed it off, and bam, I have myself a shorty antenna. Doesn't look too bad either. Put a small patch of electrical tape on the top to cover the exposed part. Why didn't I think of this before???

I just did the chop off as well. I left enough of the fiberglass whip to reattach the rubber tip. Reception suffered a bit, but I only listen to a sports station for the Red Sox or Celtics games.
I figured that if the modified stock antennna was a total bust, it was easier to find a full size replacement that worked well than a "stubby". A short antenna that I tried from Pep Boys was junk and quickly returned.
