Clutch Blow-out?
Clutch Blow-out?
I have an 02 MCS and was at Nelson Ledges track today. I have just 40K miles on my car. On my first run I noticed a bit of clutch slipping and in fact I recall also missing a shift.
By the second run it was much more pronounced, especially in higher gears 4, 5 & 6. I'd throw a shift and it would slip. Reflexively I'd back off the throttle and it would grab. By the third run I was shifting at around 5K and it started slipping into redline. By the final turn the gearbox did not engage at all and I limped off the track. (The clutch pedal was in the normal position, not on the floor).
With just 40K miles, does this sound symptomatic of clutch disc wear? I have never had a clutch fail so suddenly, without too much prior slipping or warning. Or could it be the throw-out bearing or what? From what I gather it is not symptomatic of a slave cylinder failure. Is it possible for the gearshift linkage to loosen? Any feedback would be appreciated.
If I do need to replace the clutch, PP, TOB, etc., does anybody have any aftermarket replacement recommendations? I was looking at the Clutch Master Stage 2 FX200 which seems to suit my driving style "street enthusiast or weekend racer". Again, any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
