The Italian Job
The Italian Job
Just watching the Italian Job for the billionth time I never tire of watching those Mini's go wild on those mean LA streets. I like the movie but I think the Mini's need more air time. They just steal the show.

Saw the MINI's (well 3 of them) on the tour of the plant in Oxford...

Now all I can do it scan the movie for slip ups like when Charlize Theron makes out she's a hot shot driver in the extras and the MINI she's in actually has two steering wheels.

That's neat...I always wanted to go on the mini plant tour...I just now finally got my passport and plan to save for a trip to go somewhere.

They are battery-powered when they go through the subway and the sewer pipe.
In the "making of" section of the movie, they said some 20 other Minis were used/crashed in the process of making the film. I wonder if BMW sponsored the movie like Ford has done for recent James Bond flicks.
I saw in IMDB.com that there was talk of "The Brazilian Job" but it seems stuck. I heard the MINI's are still negotiating for getting first credits.

The original movie was made in the late sixties using sixties-type minis.
Possible spoiler coming....
The end of the car chase scene had the three minis driving up a ramp into the back of a moving bus-like vehicle. IIRC.

It's hard to believe "BUT"
From what I have heard it was Fiat of Italy that helped sponser that movie. I guess the person in charge did not want to mess up a good movie by being petty. The Fiat plant and help with permits and Police / City coperation was provided by the Fiat company.
I really do not think the movie would have been the same or as popular if it was not for the Mini Coopers. They were stars of the first movie and still stars of the second movie.

Just finished this movie.
Freakin' awesome! Funny thing is I knew this movie had MINIs in it and I've actually watched the first 20 minutes of this movie 5 times before actually watching the whole thing.
The special features were cool too. They had something like 30 MINIs in the production, 3 of which were electric for the subway scenes. Very cool.

Too busy with Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, Ironman, and other such scifi stuff I guess. Oh, yeah, and prolly been too focussed on raising the kids
The original 60's version is just as fun to watch. I bought it before the updated version was released just to get a background and compare. To me the original is more like a comedy.
Dicks Garage R53: I feel the same about the ending, maybe they were going to make a sequel and didn't.

And it only took you 9 YEARS why?
