I have the original (1969) on DVD....Michael Caine and Benny Hill!! Seriously! I saw it many times as a kid and then it kind of disappeared. Made it's reappearance after the 2nd version came out. A lot of people have watched the new one and wondered why it was called the "Italian" job when the job was in LA. Both are worth watching for any genuine Miniac.

The opening scene takes place in Venice, Italy so the title isnt completely lost on the story line.

A new movie featuring minis needs to be made, with more focus on minis and driving.

Mark Wahlberg stated in a Top Gear interview that he will only make a sequal to the Italian Job if they improve the story line and keep it true to the original while topping the 2003 version

I have the 60s version at the top of my "watch instantly" Netflix queue now.

That is what happened in the original Italian Job. Austin/Morris (forget which company) made the producers of the film buy the Minis that were used.

Oddly enough, FIAT gave them as many as they wanted. That is why in the scenes when they are in Italy there is a **** load of Fiats
