Suspension Will MCS with Sports Pkg benefit from a Rear Sway Bar Upgrad
Will there be a significant difference if I upgrade to 19mm or 22 mm bars over the sport suspension on the MCS/Sprt Pkg? Will I feel the difference in street/freeway driving? Any suggestions?
HELLA YA....where have you been
just kiddn...it'll do wonders for your turn in response....reduce understeer bigtime. Then you get hooked...then you want more and more and more and more and more....
I'm a recovering Miniholic and and doing very good...especially after Randy stopped in town last weekend LOL

Hey, fellow alum! Here is one MC take (thus, this may not apply to you at all) from little ole me: After I had the H-Sport (Sport) installed, I began to hug turns without putting anyone in harm's way. Felt nothing much (could be a reflection of my turns though, obviously). Last month, did Solo II. Felt a lot. In comparison to the two months prior (then being without the H-Sport), last month's venture had my **** swinging out ...sliding even (that per the starter, Z4 owner, mentioning such). Regarding freeway driving. Gotta say: none. Anyway, good luck! Take care, ghui
I have a stock S with Sport Plus suspension, except I added the madness 22mm rear sway bar in spring of 03. I also have a BMP intake. I have done 15 track events around the midwest since July of 02. The handling change was remarkable but you only will notice this when you are taking corners hard.
Before the swaybar, I had a great time learning to drive the car. During my first season in 02 I was more aware by degrees by the understeering. It meant I had to lift the throttle at some point to keep the car turning )good for beginners!) and there was more tendency to scrub speed during the turn and have a low exit speed. After the sway bar was changed, the car felt more stable. The steering was really very neutral which meant I could feel the car balanced around a center (under my seat it seemed) and I learned to deal with mild oversteer. With the swaybar on the middle of the three settings, it took a quick turn of the wheel to get the rear end moving, but it was easily kept in a mild to moderate drift with a very slight correction. I could keep moderate throttle after braking and then to full throttle at the apex. This is with stock springs and camber settings. A pro driver in the car for the first time ran a fast lap of 2:57 at Road America and that was at a safe 90% for him. Beyond this inexpensive change, you would be adding only small percentages of improvement with any other suspension changes in terms of lap times. Unless you plan to compete, the stiffer sway bar isn't really important in daily driving.

Thanks for the tip, Chigh. Since I never go to track, I might just save my money for a pulley/ECU upgrade.

I rarely compete but am thrilled with the 22mm Alta rear sway bar. I have it on softer setting, so I still get a little understeer. It has evened out the tire wear and keeps front tires hooked up. Round town driving is more fun. It is an excellent mod as it enhances the handling, which is why most of us got the car in the first place. Car handles so much better! You can't go wrong for $200. That said, the Pulley is the best first mod.
That's what I like about this site...so many good advice. Hope someday I will be able to give out a few. Thanks for the tip.
