I'm trying to talk my dad into an R57. He keeps saying the same thing about any new car: "It has to fit 2 sets of golf clubs." (He and mom are extremely serious golfers)

If you've got pics of 2 sets of golf clubs in your car, post 'em up!

 

I doubt you'll get two sets of clubs in the boot, however with the top down, you can hang them outta the rear seats.

Sorry, I've never seen any pictures. Guess we don't have serious any R57 golfers out there yet.

 

Can you lay the seats down and slide them through the boot and on top of the rear seats? I think that counts. I've never seen a cabrio in person, so I don't know the details. Mom wants a convertible.... dad just wants a car. He's driving my old '96 altima that they bought to compliment their '94 altima. The 96 has over 200,000 miles on the odo, which only works about 1/2 the time!

I'll never be able to talk him into a new car, so we'll have to find a used cabrio. Are there any "common" problems to watch out for on the 2nd gen Cabrios?

 

I'm a prospective owner and have the same concern, but when I played with the folding seats at the dealer this seemed very doable. I've seen reviews also mention going sideways in the back seat. Gonna have to bring my clubs with me to the dealership fir the test drive.

 

get a trailer hitch add a small platform and secure clubs in the rear similar to how you would carry bikes on a rack. Oh yea you can use the hitch for bikes too

 

They fit in a hatch with the seats down so at least in theory they should fit in an R57 with the rear seats down as well.

 

I have had two sets in my R57... (just as long as only two people is OK)

I had one set in through the trunk with the back seats down.. and the other was layed across the backseats... top went up and down without issues as well..

getting the bags through the trunk and onto the back seats is a bit tricky thought as it depends on how wide your bag is...

 

The only way for me is to seat my bag in the passenger seat. Tried going thru the boot but had a hell of a time fitting my bag thru the opening. I ended up taking my SUV if I'm golfing with another person and needed to carry two bags.

 

Can't you put the top down and put the bags in from the inside into the trunk with the seats down?

 

The "opening" between the boot and the backseat is too small for my large bag. I can lay it across the back seat though. I don't think I could fit two bags in. When my husband and golf together we take his car

 

Dad has a Ping Hoofer 2 (he walks alot) and Mom has a smaller cart bag. I think they'll fit. If any of you are walkers and haven't tried a Hoofer, see if you can find one to try. I also have a Hoofer and they are GREAT.

I just but 2 bags in the booth of our cabrio with the 2 seats down, no problems. But I would go for the hitch system if I was a serious golfer.

Or, If they already have travel cases for their clubs, then they could get by with something like this...

 

I don't have any pics, but will take some next time, but I have done it a few times, top down, back seat down they fit no problem. Maybe if you have gigantic cart bags, but it should not be a problem. I have mine back there, with the pull cart regularly. Went to Palm Springs for a long weekend with the wife in June, only one set of clubs, but also a ton of luggage, same with AMVIV this year.

 

This thread has been really helpful. I have been looking at getting a car to replace my Chrysler Sebring Convertible in the next 12-18 months. One of my requirements, besides fun to drive and good fuel economy, is being able carry my golf clubs or my hockey bag. I had considered a new Miata, but surprisingly there is no way to get the clubs in the car, other than carrying them in the front seat. My son has a MCS Clubman, and we can actually get both his hockey bag and my hockey bag in at the same time without putting the seats down. The Clubman is great, but I want a convertible. The R57 boot is small, but the fold down rear seats would seem to make it liveable. I had suspected I could get the clubs in that way and this thread seems to confirm my assumption.
