To my knowledge you are not obligated to buy if you put the deposit down until last minute that you get the delivery of the car and sign the papers (speaking based on my personal case), but as far as 10 vs. 11 goto motoringfile.com and read their recent article about differences and you be the judge yourself, I ordered 10 with the knowledge of 11's are coming and differences was not that important for me.

I wanted mine NOW. Did not want to wait. Your choice, if you are not in a hurry ...custom order and watch it get built.
If you see a Mini you really like and the price is appealing....what the heck...grab it. Either way you'll have one. Fun now or fun later. Flip a coin. Heads you win, tails you win. Guess I'm no help.

I have researched the 11 model and there are things that I like and things that I don't like. I don't like the new rear fogs, I like the idea of active brake cooling but think the ducts are kinda ugly, the black interior controls is good but I like the silver on mine, the motor should be a nice improvement - better mileage and 9 more horsepower.

All in all, it wasn't worth the wait for me, but you will have to decide if its worth it for you.

My opinion: If you plan on getting navigation and a JCW body kit, wait for a 2011. If you don't want either of these things, go with the 2010.

I'd get the '10, the last year model of the old generation is usually more a refined vehicle than the first year model of a new generation (if '11 is a new gen). If buying the new generation MINI, i'd wait for a couple of years till all the potential problems surface and solved.

I ordered my 2010 MCCSa in April and a few days before delivery the 2011's were announced. I did have second thoughts about cancelling the order and waiting 4 months for the 2011, but then I realized the cash incentives and discounts I got were only for the 2010, and really what I spec'd was EXACTLY what I wanted. I decided that the new changes weren't important enough for me to cancel and wait some more. Now one thing I do wish I had was the MINI Connect but then again, even the bluetooth phone and music is a HUGE improvement over what I had with my R53. I couldn't be happier with my 2010...especially now that I'm customizing and personalizing it!

How soon do you want to drive a MINI? That is the question. I don't see any real improvements in the 2011 that would make me wait plus you know there will be a price increase of some amount. It's your call!

Wait for an '11. Waiting is hard but after you take delivery of your new baby, the memory of the wait fades fast. Unless you want to take advantage of the current incentives and you just can't wait, check several dealer's inventories. You may find your baby is already out there waiting for you.

Ultimately the decision is yours and what makes you satisfied with no regrets. I too struggled with this same dilemma but ended up with a 2010 (2nd MINI in the fam). The dealer/case incentives and discounts saved us some dough which gives us the opportunity to add aftermarket parts to customize it the way I want . For me, the differences weren't enough to justify spending the extra money on a 2011; not enough HP gain and the interior refresh wasn't drastic enough and the gas mileage is already one of the best on the market today. MINI connect would have been extra option which means extra money. The options that came with our 2010 were perfect as we got exactly what we wanted, right down to the color.

In this case, the 2011 is a refresh, not a 3rd gen which would be something to wait for, which isn't for another 3 years. By that time, my 2010 will be paid off and time to add a third MINI to the fam.

I agree with Octaneguy that being the current owner of a 2006 and a 2010 there is a huge difference and improvement as well as going from one MINI to a two MINI owner is way better than no MINI at all.

If I were you I would wait for the 2011 just because it has more hp and it will be a little more economic, not much I assume since the numbers haven't been announced, but it's still an improvement. I could care less for that mini connect cuz we're not i-phone users. We would have waited but we wanted a Camden and that's not going to be available on the 2011.
