Hi, all. I bought my Cooper S on December 21 of last year. It has the Premium Package, so I have the dual-panel sunroof and the automatic AC. But this package, as I understand it, should also have included the Harman Kardon sound system - and my car just has the basic stereo.

Did anybody else here buy a MINI around the same time frame with the Premium Package, and did you get the HK or the standard sound system?

If I should have received the HK, I'll give MINI of St. Louis a friendly call and see if they're amenable to swapping out my stereo for the right one.

I think they had a time frame where the factory was out of the HK stereos and they dropped the price of the premium package to make up for the lack of no hk's installed.

 

Bought mine in March of 2010, they had TWO premium packages, one w/o HK, one with it. The one without was cheaper, but not by much, sorry, but don't have the exact amount.

 

Ah, interesting. I'll bet that's what they did with mine. Ah well, so much for getting a kickin' stereo under warranty.

Shame, too... Edmunds.com rates the MINI Harman Kardon system as one of the best systems out there.

I am pretty happy with my HK. The premium package was worth the compromise of a sunroof for the lady and auto ac was basically just a throw in.

Being in the middle of a home renovation pretty much rules that out. Sigh...

If it's a 2009, then you won't have it.

If it's a 2010? It's the first I've ever heard of them being out of the HK.. Strange

 

As was posted there was a period of time when they first put the HK system option in place where the supplies where limited. At that time the only way to get a HK system was to have ordered either a Camden or Mayfair special edition car with the HK system. That shortage lasted less than 3 months if I remember right. So even if you ordered a car with the HK set up around sept of 09 till about dec 09 you coudlnt get the HK sound system. Actually the shortage didnt last even that long I dont think. I think my car was built in Nov 09 and it has the HK system.... It rocks too.

 

Check out NewMINIStuff, the UK based outfit. The list a retrofit stero that is plug and play with all speakers replacing the OEM with no problem. I have ordered stuff from them and they know what they are talking about.

I have a 2010 MCS that was built on 10/6/2009 and I have the H/K stereo. Initially MINI had indicated there would be a 3 month wait at that time, but it was significantly less and they had just started installing them about the time mine was built.

As for retrofitting, not going to happen. Completely different wire harness in the vehicle.

 

I bought my 2010 on December 12th with the premium package and it came with the HK system. It is a shame that you did not get that stereo. Hopefully you did get the discount though.

 

Ordered mine Sept 15 or so with the HK, delivered on Nov 3, with the HK...

 

Just got mine used, it had the PP and no h/k. :( I bought it sight and unseen and made the assumption it had h/k in the PP. It had Sat. radio and USB/ipod so I was shocked.

Now aftermarket upgrade will be due.
