engine damper

Seems no one is making these right now (TSW is backordered). Searched internet and couldn't find any.

Was it a fad or does it really help?

It really helps. There is too much slack in the engine mount. The engine rocks back and forth every time torque is applied or released. I don't know about automatics but on a manual the clutch engagement is much smoother when the engine isn't moving as much. You can feel a difference from the damper even lifting up the accelerator.

VIP has what I think is the best design, and it seems to be currently available: http://www.vipcustomparts.com/minicooperparts.htm

I put a VIP on my 2004 MCS. Haven't regretted it.

Thanks guys! The ones I saw look like a little shock absorber. Does the VIP fit in the same spot?

The LOTF and TSW dampers are the 'shock absorber' style. The VIP went solid with bushings. Basically located in the same spot. Hold the engine rigid in respect with the body is the idea.

I have a Helix 13 Damper on my R50, quite glad with the product. You can find it on their site for 50-60$ if I ain't mistaken.

Here's their site: http://www.helix13.com/mini/products

Here's an Install guide: http://www.helix13.com/install/Engin...r_Early_v2.pdf

Hope this helps.

Cheers and keep motoring!

Even better is to get some upper and lower engine bushing replacements.
http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop..._bushings.html
The lower mount is actually the one that causes the most movement. By using the new bushings you restrict the movement of the engine from both top and bottom.

VIP damper is the best one I think. I have had both TSW and VIP... the VIP is still on my car.

Good luck finding the TSW ones....they are becoming collectors items!!
Like most TSW stuff, it is getting hard to find...makes one wonder what is going on at TSW...I don't want to start rumors, but folks want to buy stuff from them, and it all been out of stock......
This indrustry is changing pretty rapidly, and our gen1 mini's are becoming an older make, let's hope that the TSW parts situation gets worked out soon, and some new production runs are made for the popular items!!!
