R53 MCS Mushroomed and Tire Issue

Hi, Im a long time lurker on these forums but a first time poster lol.

My issue is a mushroomed front right mount. I have read countless threads on this very flaw on mini coopers and a preventative solution is to buy a reinforcement mount such as the M7 SRP. But since the mushrooming has already occurred how do i flatten it out to apply the SRP?

another issue that has caused some pain is the front right tire on the mount the mushrooming has occurred is getting very uneven tire tread wear and has cause one side of my tire to completely go bald while the other side of the same tire has tread.

i guess my main question is if i successfully flatten out the mushroomed mount, get an alignment and install the M7 strut reinforcement plate, will my uneven tire wear go away/fix this issue or is it something more? did i destroy the strut or the suspension?

sorry for the long post, im just worried about my mcs. any help or advice would greatly be appreciated.

thank you

Sounds like you are on the right track...I have heard of a few folks fixing it with a hammer, and a block of wood, then have strut braces/strut top defender installed. Br sure to get an alighnment too. Also if the car is lowered, tire wear can be poor due to camber issues and other alighnment problems...if you have lowering springs you may need adtional parts to get the tires to wear evenly.

Well, you'd remove (or loosen) the strut to pound the strut top. The strut's rubber bearing holder thing is probably also bad, and wont go back into the newly flattened strut top.

But, this is a good time to get some camber plates, they will be thicker than the oem mounts - thus more protection, and the right part will allow you to even up your camber and rid yourself of the uneven wear.

Note that in stock form, the only adjustable setting for an alignment in front is toe.

Go ahead and try to beat it flat with the hammer and 2x4, after getting it down a bit you can use either the M7 SRP's or the Craven STD's to pull the metal down the rest of the way and get it straight. But if the mushrooming is too bad you won't be able to get the plates on so you'll have to replace the upper strut mounts, cause that is what is the original cause of the mushrooming. Replace them, and while they are out beat the sheet metal down, then reinstall everything and the new plates and you'll be fine.
