Bluetooth sucks! what to do!

My bluetooth is basically worthless. With incoming calls I can barely hear the other person. When I make a call I cannot hear the other person, and they state that they can barely hear me. I have tried it all, volume button is all the way up, and my bluetooth volume, while I am on a call on my blackberry is all the way up. Went to verizon, and they stated nothing is wrong with my blackberry (it is a curve 8530 I think). Took it to my local mini dealer, and they checked it and said that it works fine, to factory specs, of course, why would they ever repair anything correctly. What do I do? go to another mini dealer? Any suggestions?

I've noticed that I have to crank the volume every time I get (or make) a phone call, in fact it is a habit now. The car seems to reset the volume ever time the MINI is turned off.

Mircophone placement is another thing. If you haven't had it moved yet, you need to do that. It made a huge difference, my wife always complained that I sounded like I was in a tunnel.

Don't know if this will help, but I have to turn up my RINGER volume on my phone to get the BT louder. Yeah, strange but it works.

Definitely move the mic if you haven't... uh, assuming it's the same on a vert as a coupe

First of all a few things come to mind.

1. Volume control in the MINI can ONLY be adjusted while some one is talking to you. If there is no voice coming in and you rotate the volume control it does no good.

2. When are you trying to talk on the phone. If the top is down and you are doing 60 miles an hour then it is just not going to work. I have not been in a convertible with the top down where you can talk on the phone with bluetooth. There is just to much wind noise for it to work.

3. Question is have you tried it with the top up and just sitting in your driveway. If this does not work then there is something wrong. And you may need to see another dealer about it, Some just have no clue.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone. Your phone should have a volume specifically for bluetooth calls. Make sure that is all the way up as well. Now I actually have to turn down the volume on BT calls because they're loud.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I am not dumb, I have tried it all! Of course I have tried turning the volume up ON calls. You can barely hear the caller on the other end when the car is in the garage, with the top up, windows up, and engine off! Just with the power on. I have tried my wifes Iphone, with the same result. It is the car.

Jaydub, As I stated initially my blackberry on call volume is all the way up. My phone was checked by a verizon store. They said it is fine.

My bluetooth does not work, period.

I know there is a problem, because when I first got my car it worked amazing. When I was on calls, I had to turn the volume way down it was so loud. Then all of the sudden one day it just stopped working correctly. Universal mini is where I took it, and they said there is nothing wrong. They are flat out wrong, it used to work, and now it does not, and I do not know what to do except try another mini service dept.

Thanks for the suggestions, just frustrated, and some posters did not read my initial post very well. thats all. I will try another update to my blackberry. Yes initally, as I stated in last post, it worked amazing. Now it does not hardly work at all. I did update my blackberry, maybe I can download on my blackberry the previous version of software to my phone, I believe that is when it worked amazing. Seems to me that after my blackberry upgrade it did this. But as said I went to verizon, they checked my phone, and went in my car and stated all is well, as did the mini dealer. Thanks.

yeah I'll admit I missed the part where you said your BT volume on the phone was up.

I know when I've upgraded software on my 9000, it did mess with the volume some. I remember reading on Crackberry.com that some versions had better call volume than others. I'd assume the same to be true for bluetooth volume. I suppose it couldn't hurt to experiment.

And gshadow is right. Nobody was implying that you weren't getting it, or that you hadn't already tried troubleshooting. I think we all tend to jump the gun and assume the same questions are being asked again.

How do you turn up the BT volume on an iPhone separate from the regular volume?

You actually have to be in a bluetooth call, then you adjust it the same way you would normally (on the side of the phone, with the physical buttons). It should keep that setting forever, I haven't had to readjust it since I fixed it.

Thank you...that fixed that part of the problem for me!

Next I need to work on moving the microphone this weekend.

Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket options for a replacement microphone that has better performance?...or is it to some extent a function of the quality of the iPhone BT?

If you are using a blackberry. Here is how you increase the volume.

With the car OFF!
Call your voice mail
on the blackberry, turn on the speakerphone
on the blackberry, turn UP the volume of the speakerphone all the way
hang up blackberry

turn ON car
let Bluetooth connect
call your voice mail
volume should be louder on the bluetooth now

trust me...it works

I don't know about other phones, the blackberry Tour and Bold works.

can you please share how you got it to work? i hear fine but the others in the call always complain about the quality. I have tried the fixes suggested in the forum, including changing the location of the mike. I took the Mini to the shop and the service manager said that there is a software issue between the MINI/BMW and the iPhone.

The only software issue (that I'm aware of) that exists is the one which doesn't allow the iPhone to be charged with the MINI iPod cable. Other than that, I have no issues with call volume on either end.

Did he have anything more specific than that, in regards to a software issue?

Hei, thank you for responding. He said that it was an issue with both BMW and MINI and had to do with the software. My complaint was in regards to the quality of the calls - especifically the person on the other side of the call. He mentioned that the issue was the iPhone and for me to get another phone. I am planning to test the system with a Samsung to see if this is true or not.

I tried slimjimtell's suggestion, and it did nothing. I can barely, I mean barely hear the person on the other end of the call. I am now going to downgrade my blackberry software to the 4.7 version and see if that fixes it. With that version I had great volume on my bluetooth. We will see...

Sorry can I ask a basic question on how to operate the hands free? is it as simple as turning your phone on bluetooth and when the phone rings just hit the pickup button on the steering wheel. I cannot find any information in the owners manual and I assume a separate manual applies. Sadly this I do not have :(
I have an iphone original flavor is that is important

Thanks

Or you can install a Garmin unit with Bluetooth and everything will work great, right out of the box.

Hello, I bought a used 06 S Convertable. It did not have the Blurtooth installed. I want to install a bluetooth and use with the steering wheel buttons. Can anyone recommend what I need in order to do this?

Thanks, Dave
