GP head/fog light question

I wanted to see if any of you know what's going on with these loose plugs? do they go to anything? have they been modified? also, my front fog lights do not turn off regardless of headlight on/off position or through the toggle switch. they're pretty bright, so id like to be able to turn them off somehow. thanks!

I just went out and checked my GP and no where did I find wires and plugs that match those in your picture. Did this car have driving lights on it at one time? As far as the fog lights on all the time, just a thought could they have been programed as daytime running lights? sorry I couldn't provide more info. Good luck

PS GP's dont have fog lights from the factory either. Post a picture of the front of your car!

Since GPs do not have fog lights, my guess is that it is the parking light that is programmed as a daytime running light. Is the light that is on in the same light fixture as the turn signal? If so, that is the parking light. You will need to have it reprogrammed. I did not think that the GPs were normally programmed to have daytime running lights so I wonder if you car was reprogrammed at some point, maybe if driving lights had been installed at some point.

If it is day running lights, they will go off when the E brake is applied - easy test.

since i just got the car, im just trying to piece together what's been done to it. the "fog" (?) lights stay on literally any time the car is on. there's toggle switches on the dash for both the rear/front fog lights. the rear turns on and off just fine. the front switch apparently does nothing. here's a couple more photos.

They look like part of a harness to driving lights. Those are aftermarket fog lights. Cannot tell if those are silver oem painted (faux) air ducts.

OK the last pics clears up a little, the previous owner has added fog lights. The place he added them is where the false airduct inlet would be located. You might be able to find the manufacturer of the fog lights and get a install wiring diagram and then trace where yours are wired in and correct the problem. Sounds like they are wired to a switched hot lead and not to the fog switch itself.

Besides the fact that their were no fog lights from the factory their also were no switches for front or rear fog lights. Those two switch area's were left blank. If your car now has factory switch's in those area's the entire controll panel has probably been replaced.

What does your switch panel look like. As Steve suggested someone has probably modified the panel or installed a replacement panel. For example, I modified my panel by adding two switches in the blank locations. I use one to control my garage door opener through one of Ian's Auto-Up circuit cards. My other switch does not control anything but looks like a fog light switch.

If you have an added switch for the rear fogs it might not control the front fogs. When most people add front fog or driving lights they usually add a separate switch (not in the normal toggle switch panel) so you might want to look around and under the dash to see if you can find a switch.

The owners manual covers other models of Mini and is not specific to the GP. So the picture indicates the previous owner did replace the entire switch panel. If the lights are wired to the switch, the switch could be bad or it is wire incorrectly.

I've always wished my GP had some fogs. That's a nice mod IMO...IF you keep the stock faux air duct parts for the historical reason. I also like them default on. I have fogs on my daily driver Chevy HHR and ALWAYS forget I have them so they're never on....what's the point? LOL

+1 to Gmann2369's advice. And I agree with Mr. Wilson. It looks like the ones installed in your GP are a professional add-on job.
