Broken Headlight Bracket?

Took my car in for service on Saturday (oil change, filters, etc) My car runs fine and great. buuut while I was waxing it on saturday afternoon I noticed something odd, the right headlight seemed 'out of place' while further investigating I popped open the xenon cover and noticed that the light assembly moved around. When I looked at the Left one it was firm and in place, ever had that happen to anyone? I'm taking it in tomorrow to have it fixed ( car still under warranty ) I don't know what would have caused it, so its weird and its driving me nuts!

If it was ok before the dealer visit and now it isn't, odds are that the service tech closed the hood with something in the way and the headlight is what gave way first.

If that is the case, check around the headlight opening for bent sheetmetal or other signs of damage.

Just a thought.

Same thing happened to both of my halogen headlight housings (say that 3x fast lol). There's a thin white plastic arm / bracket that stabilizes the housing. One night I wondered why both of the headlights were pointing down just to find out that BOTH of the plastic arms were broken. At least the car's still under warranty.

Good luck to the OP, depending on your dealer, there may be a fight in your future. xenon housings are not cheap at around $400 each the dealer may be stubborn to pay. Whenver I get broken tabs I don't even bother unless its blatantly obvious, but I'm not everyone

What do they do with the old housings? Can you ask for them back or do they have to send them off as proof of warranty work.

If they warranty it, it gets turned back into the parts department and sent back to BMW to analize the failure. If they make you pay for it, then its yours and you can request that the old part be placed in your car.

I just ran into this same problem. Xenon bulb failed prematurely apparently without explanation. I bought a new bulb(C$300.00) and discovered the broken bracket inside the light housing. I am trying to repair the bracket with GOOP glue. Has anyone else had any luck repairing the bracket?

I used JB weld. Works great. I removed the lens to get more access which wasn't hard, just make sure it sits in the sun for a while to soften the sealing glue.
