Spring Drive 4/1/7/10

Saw this event listed on the Milwaukee MINI web site. I picked up my Mini in Nov and got my husband one in jan. We've been kicking around joining the club, but he works 2nd shift M-F so he can only participate in weekend events, I haven't been seeing too many around. Do we need to join the club before this event or can we during?

Also, whats the recommendation for FRS radios? Would like to get a couple with a good distance range to them, if not just for events, for the fact that we both have Mini's and so we both want to drive all the time. hehe

Welcome to the MINI world. You don't even need to belong to the club to join the Spring Run, but we'd love to have you join. We do MINI Mondays at area custard stands, and since you have 2 MINIs you could even come without your hubby. You can join the club online, so don't wait till the 17th.
I don't have a FRS, so I can't help you there at all.
Hope to see you on the 17th.

Thanks! We picked up a couple Motorola FRS radios at Sams Club today and took them out for a test drive to Lapham Peak and then south on a bunch of rustic roads (stupid speed limits...). It was a blast, and they worked pretty well as long we don't really get out of complete sight from one another.

Patricks going to take the 16th off (which is his bday) so getting up and being some place at 8 in the morning won't be so bad. Its hard to get up that early when you don't get home from work until 1:30am.

Oh, btw, the Milwaukee Mini's web site mentions that you can just meet up at the Jelly Belly factory in Racine at 9am if you want. Its not in Racine, its actually just southwest of Kenosha, almost on the state line, in Pleasant Prairie at: 10100 Jelly Belly Lane, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158

Just in case anyone's actually thinking about heading straight there.

event on the 17th

Where is everyone meeting on the 17th? I've been looking for somewhere to go before I go to the Dells event on the 24th. I checked the bmw forum and the guy setting everything up posted a message yesterday advising that any vehicle in the bmw family can go. I'll be there if I get my car back in time. Someone deciding to back into it this past week. International Auto has right now and I hope to get in time.

Spring Drive - Chicago MINI Motoring Club + Minis in Northern Illinois (M.I.N.I.) + Milwaukee MINIS
Saturday, April 17, 2010
Location: If you would like to be a part of the caravan from the Milwaukee-area, please meet at the Ryan Road Park-n-Ride off at 8:45 AM. We will then drive together to the starting point where we will be meeting the other MINIS and getting directions for the official drive. (Or, if it is more convenient to you, just meet us at 9:30 am at Jelly Belly in Pleasant Praire.)

The Chicago MINI Motoring Club invite the Milwaukee MINIS to join their drive event taking place in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area. This is a fun drive of about 50 miles complete with a driving quiz for sharp eyed navagators (and pilots). There is no cost to attend, but if you chose to eat, everyone is responsible for the cost of their own lunch.

Please RSVP to theresa@milwaukeeMINIS.com

What to bring: Your MINI or Mini with at least a 1/2 tank of gas, a camera, your favorite MINIs gear, optional FRS radio tuned to Channel 1, Subchannel 1, a clipboard and pens for the driving quiz, and a smile!!

Hey, if you can come to the Mini event, does that mean we Mini's get to come to your BMW event in the Dells too? :D

mini event 04/24/10

Hi morwen,

Of course you should go to the meet in the dells. I was told about it by a buddy of mine that has a 135I. I wasn't going to go at first because the guy setting it up only wanted "true" bmw's. Which I think is crap. I think he realized there would be a bigger turnout if Mini's and BMW's came. I am scheduled to get the car back on the 16th, so it looks like I should have it back before the meet this upcoming weekend. A group of us are meeting on the 24th and then driving up to the dells. If your interested let me know.

tomorrow's event

I was able to get my car back in time. I'll be joining all of you tomorrow morning. This will be first time I'll be able to test the summer performance tires recently purchased, so it should be a good time. The ryan road park and ride is a couple exits after the airport exit correct?

Yes sir! Couple exits south of the airport. I'll be the black Clubman with the God awful bright rally green mirrors. Lol. Still trying to talk the old man into the Dells next weekend.

Thank you! I think she looks good with her blackjack mirror covers and no roof rack too, but not quite as eye candy.

I've got some pics up on flickr as well, you're welcome to them if you like.
