Anyone want to share long term update on General UHP?

I am thinking of these tires to replace my wearing Kumho SPT on my 06 MCS and wanted to ping the board here and get long term impressions from people that have been driving on these for more than 15k miles.

Are you still happy with them?
Have they gotten noisy over time?
Do they still perform well in the Wet and Dry?

I've been happy with the Kumho SPT but they no longer make them. The car is mostly a DD that sees spirited driving. Not looking for track worthy tire as I want more mileage than a Star Spec or similar.

Thanks.

I have about 20k on these tires. Went from Kumhos before. I have to say I am sort of happy with them, they shure do last a long time (longer than the Kumhos). I had no choice to get these tires because I had a flat and my kumhos at the time where bald. The generals do not grip as well in dry, but in wet conditions they are champs! I have only spun out once... In my kumhos every time there was a puddle I would feel like I was ice skating. Noise is the same, there probally 2x more noisy then the Kumho xls that I had on before.

Replaced the run flats with General Exclaim UHP tires. Currently have about 2500 miles on them. Better ride comfort and quieter than run flats. No problems in wet conditions either.

I just got the some UHP's last week. So far so good, I thought they would be a little more grippy on dry pavement. I only have about 100 miles on them, maybe they need to wear in a little? For the price, I'm liking them.

I have them...but not a lot ofmiles...just put them back on after swapping off my snows...I use them as a 3 season tire. It is a good tire...great so far in heavy rain....sidewalls are a bit to soft...but it gives them a nice ride, but I would not drive them on a track...they are afterall a all-season tire, strongly slanted to summer use.

I have run two sets of Generals on my BMW, 1 set on my Scion XB and they're good to go. Not the greatest, soft sidewall, but the treadwear is great; but with a good treadwear you're going to have less traction due to the harder rubber compound. It's a great DD tire, but if you're into spirited driving and/or track then this is NOT the tire for you.

I just got my second set of General UHPs. The first set gave me almost 30K, including one Dragon. For that kind of driving, you get plenty of audible warning that you are pushing it hard enough. About the only time they ever slip is in loose gravel. I disagree with the comment above that they are not for spirited driving. I'm not saying there is nothing better, but I think they are a good compromise.

With a treadwear rating ~400 they are made of a harder rubber compound compared to other HP and UHP tires and don't provide great traction, especially for cars with lots of torque. The sidewalls are pretty soft and under hard cornering you can feel them give.

Don't get me wrong they are great tires, but they are by no means a tire for spirited driving.

Overall, I agree but I guess it depends on your definition of spirited and what compromises you are willing to make. There is a huge thread on the M3 forums with people using these tires in a spirited manner. Soft sidewalls definitely give up some feel in aggressive cornering.

Anyway, the comments on the soft sidewalls and further reviews of the soft sidewalls on TireRack have led me to a different tire. Overall, they seem like a great tire. However, since I don't like the feel of tires with a soft sidewall, I decided on something else.

I have owned 3 sets of these, the last on my MCS, put about 20k on them and they were fine as long as the weather was warm, once it was below 50 they were like rocks,

A friend of mine has them on his Mazda RX-8. After extensive research, he chose them because they were light-weight in comparison to pretty well all other tires in the size he needed. He does not use them in the winter, so for 3 season driving, the compromises suit his style of normal street driving. He is reasonably happy with them, but does not use them for auto-crossing because they are not quite as grippy as his previous tires. They do have a very long wear rating though, and he expects to keep them for quite awhile.

Noise levels are fine. I've driven his car and have no complaints. Though I do not drive other people's cars anywhere close to their limits. Good value for money if you're in the US. If in Canada, there are other options at the same price level.
