help a noob out with grill please

hey my sister just got a 10 MC and we got a JCW black grill to replace the chrome one that came with the car. Anyway i got the top trim on and now im having a hard time getting the bottom grill/trim on for some reason, they won't line up i must be doing something wrong. I'm in Sayreville nj right next to Edison is anyone willing to help me install this grill? i'll even supply some $$ its probably a 5min job for those familiar with this mod but i never worked on a MC so im kinda stuck.

Which JCW grille do you have? If it has 3 horizontal bars it is the aero package grille and if it doesn't it is the JCW Aero Package grille. The lower molding for the JCW Aero Grille is a different part number and the standard lower grille trim will not fit on it.

Check the part number first:

JCW grill: part number:5111 040 4122 (fits MC)
MCS grill: part number:5111 044 2012

If you have the right part number, put the lower (chrome) trim piece on the grill first before installing it in you car.

If your trying to get the JCW grill on the base cooper then yes it does fit. This is easy once you know how to do it. I do agree, getting the bottom crome trim back in was a beotch. I also found its very good to have an "L" shaped flat head screw driver for removing those round black clips. With that type of screwdriver you can get the proper leverage to remove those.

I could probably do this for you quickly if you come out to the next Starbucks meet that Victor (PORT MCS) does. I don't know when that is, he hasn't posted in a while.

For what its worth I also now know how to replace the stock Cooper "side scuttles" with the nicer crome ones. I did this just this past weekend. The 80s toy race track company "Tyco" makes the electrical connectors on our cars, I got a good chuckle out of that!

I would do the grill first and use the chrome trim pieces...my opinion...it looks cleaner for the MC...if you don't like it...then add the black trim pieces.

Step back look at the MC from 10-15 ft away at different angles and really look at it...the chrome trim will tie in with the headlight rings and door handles...if you have bonnet stripes...everything will look smooth and even.

On my JustAClubman, I stood 10-15 ft away, the black grill and chrome trim was perfect...UJ Mirror Caps and UJ Rear View Mirror Cover...was clean and simple look.

On my MCS, I stood back 10-15 ft away (had the black grill and chrome trim) and it was the hood scoop that threw off the car and chrome trim...so I added JCW CF Hood Scoop, JCW CF Mirror Caps, JCW Boot Latch, Blackened the Beltline, Vinyl wrapped the gas cap, Black Side Graphics, Black Sport Stripes, Black Wheels...the car looks good.

yeah that sounds pretty nice as well and i suggested it to my sister but she is going for the white and black theme were blacking out the headlight rings and everything else that is chrome. But from the links could you tell me if i have the right parts for the job?

You can see the part number at the back of the grill. I think its on the upper right side.If you see #5111 040 4122 then it fill fit your MC.

Azim,

Looks like we will be meeting at the following on Thursday, 7:00PM, 1 April 2010 at the following:

Starbucks Rte 1&9 Aviation Plaza, Linden NJ

If you read the Starbucks post, it will be Vic (PORTMCS), Ed (Liquid Yellow), and me at the above location.

Does that work for you?

Lorin
