For those who have replaced the rear 6x9s, is there room for an 8"?

I'm handy with a dremel and I'm considering ways to fit some 8" peerless subs in the stock locations, in an infinite baffle configuration. I don't really want to rip out the interior until I have the equipment to put in its place. I've looked at some of the pictures people have posted about doing the replacement, and it looks as though there is 1" on each side that I could manage to trim.

I'm not hung up on 8" subs, because I can easily fit a 6.5" sub there with some custom mounting plates. Worst case scenario, I could do some 6x9 subs from genesis or something. I'm just trying to approach it creatively.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

(and before anyone asks, I am not going to do a subwoofer box).

I replaced my 6x9 recently, and there is enough space to put an 8" sub there. It is pretty deep, so that wouldn't be much of an issue. As far as making the opening bigger, you can probably widen it enough so you but the 8" sub in the middle of where the 6x9 hole is. There is about 1" on the side closer to the tire well, and a lot more going towards the front of the car, maybe about 2" or so.

The opening you need for an 8" sub is about 7"? If so, then hack away Posting pictures is not optional. This would be a must if you take on your project.

hehe yeah I've never done a car audio install without taking lots of pics. Either way, it will be a fun project.

Not really as the side panel is only about 3/8" from the sheet metal
