I have a early 2008 Clubman and cannot upload the contact list to the bluetooth from a new Palm Pre plus. The dealer said it might be able to reprogram the car software, but doesn't know if it will work- anyone have any luck with this, or I am doing something wrong?

according to the most extensive list available for phones via real world testing and not what MINI can tell you the Palm Pre should work.

It probably has something to do with the programing int he phone not the MINI as the MINI is basically stupid and only does what the phone tells it to. I.E. on my BlackBerry I tell the phone what contacts I want to view with the MINI and only those are transferred to the MINI and in my case that is only contacts in the Groups - Family, Personal, and Ski Friends all other groups like work, competitors, clients etc are not transferred.

You may also wan tot read thru the last 10 or so pages of this thread to see what others may have done to get the Palm Pre to work.

I am sure you can get it to work but just need to play with the settings on the phone some.

Well, I just was not patient enough- it did finally load, took a long time. By the way, I have no idea how the Pre got my contact list- I didn't do anything to get it, it was there when I logged into my Google account on the phone, or maybe my.yahoo I don't know.

there have been reports that with some phones it can take up to 3-4 hours the first time but i had not seen that with the Pre.

Glad to hear it finally made it! For what it's worth the Pre is in the official MINI list as well, the Pre Plus seemed to be just a minor upgrade without touching the Bluetooth related bits, so I don't know that it's any different to the car.
