Has anyone actually installed a JCW Aero Wing using Betalink K1 single stage adhesive? I have read many posts where it has been suggested it but none that have actually said they used it. If you have, how did it work out? Were there any issues?

I've done the install, pretty straight forward. Hardest part is taking off the original MCS wing (get some really strong monofiliment fishing line to cut through the OEM adhesive and it takes some grunt work/elbow grease, take your time so that you don't damage the paint).

The key is to mask off (using the 3M Blue Masking tape) ALL the surrounding surfaces so that your clean up is easier and make sure you take your time measuring/positioning carefully and make sure you're happy with the position before committing. I used a level just to be sure. Allow full curing time before driving too.

Have had the Wing held on with Betalink adhesive for a couple of years now, no issues. Speeds > 100 mph (on a closed course) stayed on just fine

Unfortunately the linked references don't answer the OP's fundamental question (in which I also have a keen interest BTW)...

To wit: OG used the single stage glue kit, but his spoiler was not the JCW CF wing. The JCW CF wing install example used the two-stage Betalink adhesive kit.

So back to Marty's original question -- Can one employ the single stage Betalink K1 adhesive to install the JCW CF wing and have confidence in its reliability?

I tried it and it worked perfectly You just need to find a creative way to hold it in place for 6 hours.

 

Just got my JCW CF spoiler in the mail today. Looking for measurements on how high above the brake light to put it? Also, I take it the vortex generators go over the exposed OEM bolt holes? Was anyone able to get the OEM wing off without much trouble without a heat gun? I have the Betalink K2 two stage adhesive by DOW Automotive and will post pics once I get some info.

 

This is what I did for what it is worth.

Before you read this long post Yes I am very anul and did used to work at a autobody shop back in the day. I put the "D"ave in OCD.

First took off my stock wing by removing the 2 nuts on the inside. Then without hacking up the stock wing I used a heat gun on a very low setting to not melt the plactic wing or harm the painted surfaces. I used some nice think nylon fishing line (double folded) and worked it around the edges and under teh entire monting surface of the stock wing. Its a good idea to tape off around the area to protect your paint plus you are going to have to buff and wax the newly exposed area when you are done before you mount the smaller replacement vortex (haha) generators...A.K.A Winged "hole plugs".

Caution: Make sure you wear thick gloves when using the fishing line because of the force you will need to use to get the fishing line between the stock wing and your roof (boot or hatch) you will cut your fingers nice & deep with the fishing line. (I know, ask me how)

Next I wrapped the outside edges if the new JCW wing mounting surfaces with 3M outdoor black / gray outdoor mounting double sided tape. I left the backing tape protectant film (red)on untill I was ready to mount it. I Also left the inside center section open for some super strong epoxy.
(More on the epoxy later)

Next I lined everything up and temp taped down the wing and made a outline on the JCW wing with 3M blue painter tape to find out exactly where I wanted it and lined it up. The "Measure 10 times cut once rule" applies here.

When I was done lineing everything up I removed the JCW wing and scuffed the hatch (boot) surface with a scotch brite pad dark red and cleaned the surface with acetone.

The above prep is why I taped it off so well, plus tape is cheap insurance. Next I heated the area where I was mounting the JCW wing and filled the center area of the JCW wing with a decent amount of mixed epoxy glue. Good strong stuff made for bonding plastic & metal.
(Not JB Weld) I used loctite Loctite® Professional Epoxy 5 MIN .

Next I pealed back the 3M double sided tape protective red tape and mounted that beoitch to the hatch and held it in place with more blue 3M tape overnight to keep constant pressure on it while everything dried, set up and cured.

That bad boy is never comming off ever! I sware you could use it to pick up my car..... but I wont try it.

The next morning I removed the hold down pressure tape and with the outline painters tape still on the hatch I also used a little thin line of 3M black silicone around the edge to give it a nice finished look. I smothed it with a wet finger . I let it dry a few hours also.

Note: The black silicone does not hold anything down it just hides the little thin seperation line between the JCW wing & the gray 3M tape. That little attention to detail gives the hatch & the JCW wing a really nice finished look.

When I pulled back the 3M outline tape slowly I had a very nice clean even line that looks perfect! I think my JCW wing looks better than any of the factory mounted JCW wings do IMO.
