Good morning,

After seeing a MCS today in Detroit w/R90s (Does someone have a Pepper White
MCS- I saw you on Telegraph today, I was the Yellow Vette gving you
the "thumbs up" as I turned from Telegraph onto 12MI west this morning
@ 7:30AM).

After seeing the 16" R90's in the flesh, I want a pair. Now... My car
is coming with the V Spoke 16" wheels. Don't mind the way they look,
but would prefer to upgrade to the R90s... but... I don't want to have
two sets of rims sitting around (plus would like to minimize the cost).

Any ideas what to do here? I have my order in for a week 49 build
(delivery in Jan). My dealer says no dice, I would need to order them seperate,
but aaaah, two sets of rims seems pointless to me...

The R90s work with runflats, right?

ideas?

Thanks,

-Matt

Lots of people might want your brand new V-spokes. If you place an ad in the classifieds here, someone will buy them.

And yes, the 16" R90's will work with the runflats

And if you do a bit of checking, you might find a wheel very similar to, or even better than the R90, for less $$$$.

Selling the V-spokes... you might be pretty lucky to get anything more than $350/set (check ebay too). Might be better to save for winter..???

zfxr,

You have lots of options.
You can buy the 16" R90s rims only from Classic Auto Campus- one of the NAM sponsors at 20% off retail.
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/classicauto.php

Either use the X-lyte runflat tires or better non-runflat tires on the R90s.
And sell the X-lyte rims or just put on snow tires or race tires for autocross like Falcon Azenis 215/45-16.

I got my MC a month ago and had my 16" R83s and
performance runflats removed. I replace them with
16" R90s and Falken all-season tires (non runflat).
I got the R90s from Classic at the 20% discount.
I sold my wheels/tires here on the Marketplace.
My net cost outlay was about $500. But if my
car had come with all-season runflats, I would have
kept them and just bought the R90s. That would have
only cost about $250 net. The wheels look great but
they are harder to take care of than the R83s. If you
live in the midwest like I do you might want to put
winter tires on your old rims and switch out two
times a year.

Just as a reality check the 16" R90s are easier to keep clean than the 17" two piece R90s with all those little bolts.
Be sure to use upgraded brake shoes that allow for less brake dust- Mintex Redbox or EBC Green pads are OK.
EBC reds are for the track.

^^^Yep, I have the 17" R90s. While I really like the look and wouldn't trade them for anything, they are pretty darn hard to clean. Very groovy (no pun intended). I also suggest what someone else said about switching rims for the wintertime (if you live up north).

The R90s are a great looking wheel, but at 24lbs for the 17s, damn are they heavy. I suggest checking the aftermarket BBS style designs.

Agreed, indeed orbhot!

It's a shame to see such pretty tires only get used in the winter, but it's better than never. The hubbie convinced me quickly that the 7-Holey R81s were much better, performance & engine effeciency-wise. Plus, they're strong, light & classically Mini-styled. [It still took me a while to come around on the looks of them, but now I rather like them as much as he always did, - just as they're coming off for the winter. ]null

PS. Here's to MINI offering new, groovy, light & strong 16 & 17" wheels in 2004!
