MINI5280 DIY Day and Parts Swap 3/20/10

After the great success of the first DIY day Bahman has decided to host another one. It's the same deal as last time, if you need something done with your car from oil changes to suspension updrades you'll be able to take care of it here. If you're not quite sure how to tackle a job yourself you can bring your car in and have our resident experts help with it.

Something that didn't get as much attention last time was the parts swap. Everyone is encouraged to bring parts that they're willing to sell and try to find a buyer, another real benefit is that you can even install it that day!

Post your Want to buy (WTB) and Want to sell (WTS) for the parts swap on this thread. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post2971357

**Note** Date changed to March 20th to accomadate AMVIV attendees

Hmmm. I may see TSW springs in my future! Or maybe a short shifter. So many options!

This was really cool last time. I would highly recommend it to all that might be considering some work!

I want to put in the lowering springs, the rear sway bar and the helix short shift kit. Might do a coolant header tank/coolant flush too. So with the springs and the sway bar a new alignment. So I plan on being there as soon as you open the doors.

At AMVIV

Too bad (for some) that the date coincides with AMVIV. That's where I'll be, though I'd to be at the DIY day too. Vegas baby.

I would love to attend this. I've got a Alta CAI and 15% pully I bought when everything was on sale, but I have no clue (or skill) to put these in. Anyone going that has some experience with these? I would be happy to pay for your time - maybe someone was thinking of going that doesn't really need to do any work, but would be willing to help me out?
Let me know.

Should be plenty of help around...no need to pay...It'll come around.

You need access to a pulley puller, borrow or rent one. Maybe one at the shop can be used?

Anyone have a tool to reset the airbag light? I've emailed the shop to see if they have something (assume as much), but if not it would be good to know if there's a backup available... I'll probably bring this rear sway I've had kicking about, as well as some stuff to sell/trade.

Bahman,
Do you have a torch/tool to unweld a catback muffler from downpipe? or should i have it done at a muffler shop? it's not just simply a cut and reweld it again since I am planning to put my original muffler back using an OEM V-clamp that was there before.
thanks for any info and suggestions.
Michael.

With the date change I won't be there now , as I'll already be in New York that day. Hopefully, I can hook up with someone at some point that might be able to assist with my installs.

Rich,
FIY, my strut bearings were in bad shape when we did my car. Didn't matter because I went with IE fixed plates. You may want to consider getting a set of new stockers or upgrade. Would suck changing springs and find out the bearings are bad. Also, for the SSK, exhaust needs to be unbolted at the flange (after cat) I recomend soaking the bolts with some penetrating oil (days) before comming down. Ask Cenk (chilimac).

I can help with intake, the pulley is a little more involved but am willing to help out.

I remember you guys getting the cutting wheel out and going to town on his. I was planning on doing exactly that to hopefully get the nuts loose, of course the drive from Longmont to Colo Springs will probably wipe that out. I am hoping that the strut mount bearings are still in good shape. I am sure the control arm bushings though are gone

Anyone have experience running the wires for an add-a-fuse and a USB hook up point.

Kinda tired of all the loose, sloppy wires running up from the back of scooter.

Suggestions, what I should purchase before I head down for most of the day?

Don

I have used add a circuit for radar detectors and my bluetooth before. I am not familiar with the USB hook up point however that should be pretty straight forward. Sen me your phone number and I can try to walk you through it.

Not a problem, it was my way of getting something to do on the MINI when I drive down to Colorado Springs.

Come on down and lend a hand, I will be taking pictures as usual.

Thanks for the offer of a call.

Doesn't really need to be tightened, but you were saying you didn't really feel a difference. The way I see it though if you're looking for performance, I'd tighten it down. Just watch out for snow and ice though

Change of plans. I am going to wait and do this when the stock one fails.

I will be doing some smaller stuff on my car, but will be there all day to assist anyone who wants help.

Got the Big Brake kit on a few weeks ago but still need to change rear pads but rotors need turned. Bahman, you mention possibly being able to use your brake lathe system that day...???

Also wonder if a compression test is doable / available equip.?
