iPod USB & iPod adapter in compartment

Is it possible to have both the USB option and the old-style adapter installed in the secret compartment?

Its seems excessive, but I thought it might be cool to put an old iPod in the secret compartment and leave it there but also have the option to use my iPhone in the armrest (with the right options and phone sled).

I don't see why not. The iPod in the secret compartment is seen as a CD changer by the system. So, you should be able to have both, if you have the dough ray me.

There are some special programing issues with doing this but YES it can be done. On the other hand many dealers have no clue and will just say it can not be done when the programing fails if they do not know what they are doing.

I'm sure it can be done but whether you can find anyone who knows how to do it is questionable. It used to cost hundreds with the 07's and since the USB appeared nobody wanted it. That plus stories of how you could only have 250 artists/playlists etc didn't have too many people grabbing for their checkbooks either. Maybe put a cassette deck in there and make some cool driving tapes?

Huh? What is so special about the programming for the iPod Adapter Option (used to be called iPod Integration)? It is still in the Configurator next to the CD Changer option. Any dealer should be able to install it.

IIRC, someone posted recently that the 250 limit has been overcome. I could be mistaken, best to research this aspect before ordering.

The unit is listed for $350 in the Configurator, but it is a dealer installed option, so that doesn't cover labor. Last I heard, labor was $200-300 depending on the dealer. So, way over-priced, IMO. I would like to have it, but not at $600.

How about an 8-Track?

Yeah, it does get expensive if I were to spec the MINI with. Plus dealer programing headaches are something to avoid. It sound like it probably not be worth the spend, kinda cool nonetheless.

Yea, it is something I've wanted, but couldn't justify.

It al comes down to being able to get both the programs in the radio system for the USB AND the iPod Adapter. They work slightly differently and are the system is not really designed to accept both.
