R50/53 Beer Bottles and MINI ?
As I recall, my MGB was said to have at least six places on which you could open a bottle of beer... and... how 'bout the MINI ?

I have a hard time believing that people who dispair over bird poop, road schmutz, and who won't place a front license plate on their cars would ever consider opening a beer bottle with any part of their MINI.
More or less a moot point nowadays, since so many have twist-off caps now. I havent tried the door latch strikes yet, they are the first thing that comes to mind that might work. If all else fails, I either use a table edge or my teeth (seriously!).
Well... I just went out and tried it with a St. Pauli NA. (The best of the non-alcohol beers, in my opinion.) The metal "U" latches for the side doors work great. These are on the body, not on the doors. And it is all metal, the bottle and cap never touch body paint! Deeeeelightful!
Makes for great trivia, I think! Must be more...

Some other things that come to mind (I am not near the car to look for more or check for feasibility) are the boot latch strike (on the lid), the tie-downs on the boot floor, the seatback latches and the seatbelt latches (the 'tongue' on the belt itself, which works perfectly as openers on my old Dodge).
What would make this more fun would be for every successful opening, the beer must be consumed. No non-alcoholic stuff for this game though!

I used to be able to get 7 oz bottles of Guinness (years ago) back east (and 7 oz Old Vienna's across the border in Canada ... ) and that was a perfect size to carry in the old Mini for 'emergencies' - there were several places on those cars too that could be used to pop a top; in a pinch, the Guinness could be used to top up the oil too ...
Looks like we all have some homework tonight. Class, turn in your reports as soon as your research is finished. The refrig. in the garage already has Coronas in it, so I got my homework materials gathered!

Okay, I'll do the assignment even though I am a bourbon man. I'll get a nice bottle of Newcastle Brown and try the Latch (no messing with me paint, mates!).
Greatbear, combined with some of your other posts, I am not surprised you can open beer bottle with your teeth but it leaves me both cringing and impressed. I am just glad not to be your dentist.

Damn! And I was going to take a night off from the alcohol tonight too (God knows my body needs it). Ah well, in the furtherance of Mini Science I shall put off my beer free night one more day. Oops, that's Wednesday night 7 a-side footy so that won't work. Thursday? Nope, Italian food night and I have to have my vino with that. Friday? That's the start of the weekend so that's a no-go!! Oh well, I'll rest my liver next week sometime.
I'll report back with as many "openers" as I can find later on
Heinekenny
ps Anybody got any idea which forum this will have been moved to by the time I get back? Do we have an "Open(er)" Forum?

>>Forget the bottles, someone figure out how to install a tap in the MINI. The rear cupholder perhaps??? Hook it to a mini keg in the boot. Preferably Bass or Guinness.
Hey, I've had a keg in the boot of my MINI before!! its a perfect fit!!!!

i've got some berrs, let's drink em!
if i'm in my MINI and need to open an imported or non-twist-off beer, i'd probably just use the opener on my keychain.. or perhaps screw in an opener on the parcel shelf.. hmmm.. probably a BAD idea!
Well, I found five places in the engine compartment that work well. The four matching slots on the underside of the bonnet work. (Mine is a MCS, MC owners, please confirm that you have these. They are under the "nose".) This metal is not very thick and so there is a slight temporary bending of the metal. And there's a place on the passenger side of the radiator where a kind of a slot is formed. This requires turning the bottle upside down, however, and so requires a quick action.
There is no place at the boot that I found worked. I did not crawl under the car.
By far the best choice is the two "U" door latches. They LOOK like bottle openers. You could look very casual using them... "Why, yes, I do this all the time..." And with only a small amount of care, you really shouldn't scratch a thing- it's all hardened metal.
So this is kinda cool to know. Should you be lost on the Baja... or at a football tailgate, this information might come in handy.
Now, who found other places...

And speaking of trivia… Don’t forget the original tailpipe for the MC was a beer can.
