Closeup picture of a Canadian speedo?
I live in Montana, USA and am buying an American Mini. However, I just don't like the idea of having my speedo show English units. I much prefer kph, etc.
I'm thinking of buying a Canadian speedo face and swapping it for my (yet to be built) American Mini.
Would anyone happen to have any closeup pictures of a Canadian speedo? Would you kindly point me at them?
I also once saw a new Canadian Mini with a little Canadian flag on either the tach or the speedo. Is it still there?
Thank you,
Dan

Here's a Quicktime video at MINI.ca, I looked at a lot sites and this was all I could find. You can get a look at the speedo if you pause the video. Hope this helps you.

Cool! Thanks!
I can see that Canuck speedo closely now. I see that you have just the kph displayed, no mph. That's great.
I plan to take delivery of my MCS, then explore getting the part and doing the swap.
Charles, do you have a little Canadian flag somewhere on your tach or speedo? Just curious.
Thanks!
Dan

Hi Dan
I'm a good old southern boy from Alabama. My MCS was built for the US market, no flags anywhere. Didn't you see you were on the Canada MINI web site, that's not my MINI.

The Launch Edition MINIs in Canada (an official MINI limited production run of 500 cars for Canada) had a Canadian Maple Leaf and an edition number (like 28/500 ).
As I recall though, that was on the TACH, not the Speedo.

Here is alink to a picture of a Canadian speedo in action.
Canadian Speedo
I confirm that the Canadian Launch Edition has a little Canadian Maple Leaf on the Tach with the Lauch Edition number. Mine is 58 / 500. I will try to get a pic

Yeah, I know, but I hoped you owned a personal Canadian Mini.
Many thanks to DiD and imafrog for the Launch Edition info. I didn't know that! I just assumed all Canadian Minis had the maple leaf on the tach.
imafrog, that Mini is really moving in the shot of the speedo in action!!!

Hate to be the downer on the thread, but... You might want to at least look into the legality of doing what you're talking about (even if you decide to disregard what you find out
). I remember a recent thread by someone who moved from Mexico to the US and had to switch out his speedo face for the one with the large mph numbers. In all likelihood it wouldn't be an issue, but then again with the speedo being such the center of attention in the car, a cop might notice it if s/he were at your window.

I drove a Canadian VW Rabbit all through college in SLC. That car had a KM speedo and in all my travels, including stops for cops in MI, OH, CO, and UT I never heard a word from them. In fact I even tried to use the speedo as an excuse (dumb!) and no prob. Its how fast you drive, not what language your speedo reads. If you can do the conversion in your head, you can certainly reassure any concerned cop.
