What is the best mount for the Garmin760 in a 2008 MCS?
I have the suction cup and the 'bean bag' but I'm looking for some practical commentary from those who have some miles of experience.

I have a 205W and always use the bean bag. Lots of miles with that combination.

+1 on the Garmin bean bag. I've used it in several cars and it's rock-solid.

 

I have the mount from Kuda and it looks just like it belongs in the car. My husband did a fabulous job hiding the wires. If I was computer saavy I could send you a pic. I can email it you if you like, that I can do. Except my car is in for maintenance, but I can later in the week. Email me and I will send it later in the week. I never liked the way MINI mounted theirs, mine should be the way they do it. If you are patient I will get it to you when I get my car back. --Stacy

 

Check out the Craven Speed Nuvi mount. It mounts on the back of the tachometer. It is very good quailty and very solid with little to no shake or vibration.

I got this from a internet place called "Driving Comfort" It goes in the cup holder and is easy to just glance down and view. My Garmin 260W talks to me so I really don't have to look at it to much.

In my opinion, the Kuda and the Craven mounts are the best options. The Kuda mount [which is what I have in mine] has the appearance of being an OEM part of the car. the leather is a close match and it is very easy to install. [DONT follow their directiosn. There is a much easier way] The Craven is also a good option. I have seen one in person and it is a quality product. You also will have the flexibility to position it to your liking.

There are others such as the Pro Clip and the cup holder mount but these tend to put the screen out of your line of sight and forces you to take you eyes off the road.

For the money, I recommnd the KUDA. There are a couple of threads on here so read those. I haven't seen too much on the Craven but if the Kuda didn't exist, the Craven would be in my car.

 

+1 on the Craven Speed mount. I used it for my Gamin Nuvi and it works great. Unlike the Kuda, it is easily removed. I recently changed the adapter to take my iPhone instead of the Garmin,. I've switched to using Navigon for GPS.

 

I got my 760 earlier this year, and went through all the same thoughts you appear to be having. I eventually settled on either the Kuda or Craven. Then I got a PM from a nice person that saved me all the money and grief of getting either one. He pointed out that with a permanent mount, people know you have a GPS in the car somewhere and you are at risk for a break in. Sort of like those that look for the suction cup mount rings on the windshield. He suggested the suction mount on the giant speedometer face works pretty well for a temporary mount, and the truth is that I don't need anything more than that. I know the way to work and home again pretty well! If I need it for something, it takes about 3 minutes to pull it out of the secret compartment, mount it, and plug it into the 12 volt. When I get tire of having it there, I put it away, and don't worry about a break in.

It works great for me.

I just thought I would throw in another alternative. I hope you enjoy it! I sure do!!!

 

Velcro is your friend!

I use my navigation often, and I use my cupholder often. I chose to put some velcro behind the shifter, and put some velcro in the back of the nav unit. Both were placed in strategic places so there is always contact to both sides of the velcro and it will hold it in place. I set it up for two positions, one when I am not using the cable to charge, than the unit lies flat with a slight tilt, and the other way when it's being charged, it's tilted a little more upright to make room for the cable, that when connected is angled out to the side of the nav. Best of all, it all can be removed and reapplied whenever however you want, and leaves no permanent scars!

Low profile, out of the way, and gets the job done. You do have to look down a little more to see what's on the screen, but that's what the voice commands are for-to tell you where you need to turn..

 

I like the mount purchased from gominigo, it was inexpensive, well built, reasonably stealthy, and easy to install.
The mounting to the left side of the steering wheel does mean the upper left corner of my nuvi 265wt is obscured by the wheel - this is where the arrow indicator is for the next turn, but realistically I don't look for the turn arrow anyway. I suspect if a non-widescreen model is used, there may not be the problem of obscuring the corner of the screen.
