I bet BMW says "Almost never" Probably something like 100,000 Miles or so.

But how much do regular sparkplugs cost? Something liek $3.00 each?

And the old ones don't pollute, so put new ones in whenever you feel like it.

I think I'll do mine at 2 years which will be about 13,000 Miles or so.

Take a good look at his sig. The silver ball with logo engraved is his Whalen shift ****.
Trippy has one sweet shift ****. Excellent!

Back to the question.
With the Iridium or IK-20 or IK-22 spark plugs you can probably go longer before changing them but maybe not 100,000 miles. Maybe 30,000 or sooner. Rough cost about $13-14 each.

For standard MINI spark plugs and the Accel U-groove spark plug maybe 12,000 miles esp if you do some track and autocross and want the best performance. Slowly over time the plug wears.

You can always watch for how smooth the engine is running and monitor gas mileage. If all is smooth and mpg is holding then you are OK for now.

Is there any special trick to getting the plugs removed and installed?
Which plugs should I use? Should I get them from the dealer? How much each (are you really sure plug are $14 each now...could have sworn they used to be in the $2 to $3 range each)?

NGK BKR 6 EQUP (for MC, not sure about MCS). And here's the code for the letters:
K= Hex. size 5/8"
R = Resistor plug
6 = Heat rating (from 2-11. 2 being hot, 11 being cold)
E = Thread reach, 19 mm or 3/4"
Q = 4 ground electrode
P = Premium platinum.

The other characters are unimportant.
I'm guessing they're about $10 each. If someone knows of a place that sells it for less, let me know.
