Lightweight wheels for track car with BBK
Lightweight wheels for track car with BBK
Alex, I'd appreciate your input for lightweight wheels (less than 15 pounds) for my 02 R53 that sees several track days per season. I have a Brembo big brake kit, and I will be using R comps on these wheels. I have another set of wheels/tires for street driving. What do you suggest? I'd also appreciate your input for which R comps to go with, realizing that you don't stock Nittos.
Thanks in advance.

Are there any measurements of the inside clearance? That BBK caliper is huge.

OZ Ultraleggera 15.5 lbs

BBS RG-F 16.0 lbs

Depeding on your mods, camber and hp/ torque -
235/40/17 BGF R1's are pretty good as well, longer service life.

Thanks, Alex. I have OZ's on my Justa and love the look. I'll probably go with those and the R1's at some point over the winter. The car has about 230 hp, and the suspension setup includes camber plates up front set at -2.5, along with 22mm sway bar behind, with upper and lower control arms, at -1.5.
Mounting and balancing are included with your packages, correct?

I had 15" RG-F's on my Scirocco, all 10.8 lbs each of them. Awesome wheel, and that crazy lightness was VERY noticeable in handling, ride quality, and even off-the-line acceleration.
17" rims are larger and a little heavier. Sorry, it was somewhat implied by the bbk.
The BBS are offered in 15" and 16"'s, and 16" inch wheels will not accommodate my brakes, so that just leaves the OZ's, I guess, at least from Tire Rack's inventory.
Veggivet,
That 235 sized R1 looks real tempting. Just imaging the toe of the boot with that baby. Wonder if there is much straight line speed tradeoff.
Got to measure you caliper overhang this saturday to see what fits. I think the bbk that I am looking at, the outlaw caliper, does not have the overhang like the brembo.

The OZ wheels in black are 1/2 pound lighter than the same wheels in bright silver!! That's 2 pounds less unsprung weight at the corners. I wonder how much weight I could take off if I painted the whole car black...

Thanks for your generous offer, Greg. I realize that your wheels are lighter and stronger than the other two contenders, but on the pothole-free track, I think I'd rather put the extra $$ into some good R-comps. I also prefer the simpler, more open style of the OZ's and Team Dynamics wheels, and I don't think I can get a lighter wheel in this price range with the BBK limitation on fitment. Thanks again!
