MINI USA Extended Motorer Protection

MINI USA Extended Motorer Protection
see link above
Has anyone heard any pricing details of the newly launched (Nov. 1st) MINI USA Extended Motorer Protection? This is not the MINI Extended Maintenance Warranty, that covers just oil, brakes, and filters. This picks up where the factory warranty leaves off, the Extended Motorer Protection covers an extensive list of mechanical and electrical components with two tiers of coverage and a range of durations to choose from.

I wonder what that costs? Compared to $700 for front trailing arm bushings, $500+ and 4.5 hours labor for an alternator, $900+ for an engine wiring harness including labor. I wish I had it for my 2003 money pit. But at least MINI picked up the cost of the engine harness parts (~$450+/-) and the dealership picked up the labor for the alternator replacement. All the same, "repairs" have cost me more than $1800 over the past two years; not counting maintenance items like brake pads. At 75,000 miles, I all but have an ulcer, waiting for the #$%#$$&@ CVT to go bust.

This looks to be a new program. I too am curious what the costs are as I just hit 40k. Sent an inquiry to my dealer...

Hmm interesting, the 05 I just picked up has about 30k on it. I'd def look into purchasing the extra coverage for a piece of mind with all the stories I've read and such about repairs once I'm outta warranty.

This program has been in rumor stage for about two years, and apparently it is now here - an official MINI (not third party) extended warranty program. It is now up on the MINIUSA site - this link yields the same info as above - http://www.miniusa.com/sections/moto...Protection.pdf
I'd be interesteed in hearing about pricing - dealers will have the option of adding as much profit as possible, much like they have for the Extended Maintenance Service contract.

Considering the big BMW lawsuit against US Fidelis for potraying as BMW Factory and Dealer Warranty extension plans via mailers. But I am sure US Fidelis made lots of $$$$ on this, I was thinking about extending with them after my factory one expired but then got a cheaper car ins quote if I went with my car ins provider, Mercury. Guess MINI is just jumping in on this profitable bandwagon, but I will probably jump in on it too. If I had a CVT without a doubt or hesitation I would do it.

From my local dealer:

Fidelitywarrantyservices.com is their third-party vendor
4 years or 60,000 miles from today $100 deductible $2586.00 plus tax.
5 years or 75,000 miles from today $100 ded. $2792.00 plus tax

I nearly fell over as this is over 15% of the cost of the car when new. I have not signed up for this and I'm hoping to find a better price. What also concerns me is that you hear horror stories on TV about people having to sue their extended warranty provider to get a claim paid.
Our '06 has an automatic, so I'm really on the fence as to what to do

With everything I've been reading about the reliability, clutches going, struts, sounds, wiggles, wobbles......

I'd say the 5 year 75k would be worth it for a couple hundred more bucks....I wish it was 100k though.

The MINI Extended Motorer Protection Plan is 100,000 miles and you can chose between 5,6, and 7 years of protection. And a $50 deductible.

Is this per dealer pricing for the MINI Extended Motorer Protection Plan?
Think I will do 7/10, and the deductible is only $50.

I wonder what incentive (read leverage) we have for the dealer sell it for less than MSRP on an already purchased Mini.

Can any year mini apply for this? i have an 02 mini (non s) - auto trans -- i have a warranty through carchex at the moment and have not used it (73K miles). I viewed the PDF file and did not see anything about it. I was at the MINI dealer yesterday getting a tranny flush and they did not mention it either.

I talked to my dealer about this and I was told that one first has to qualify and based on the vehicle, the price/options will vary. Confusing enough?

I have an 06 with a mere 20k miles on it, and to get another year of the maintenance warranty would cost $1800. But he wouldn't be able to give me an exact number until the car was "certified" or something.

Seemed ridiculously expensive to me, but I also do 90% of my own work - about the only thing I let anyone else do is change the oil - mostly because I hate changing the oil on cars.

I was able to "leverage" down the maintenance warranty to $1300 by getting price quotes from every California dealer and mentioning lowest quotes to dealers as "leverage". I kinda doubt that it will be that easy with the MINI Extended Motorer Protection plan, since its so new.

Sorry, the maintenance warranty is off topic, but: according to my dealer (from whom I bought the extended maintenance warranty a month ago), list price on the maint plan is $1395 if you are still within the 36 mo/36k mi original free maint program. If your free maint period has expired, the list price goes up to $1595. Many dealers, if not most, mark up the price to whatever they think the market will bear. My dealer's normal price is list, leaving relatively little negotiating room. I paid $1500 when my car was at 48 mo/40k mi, so I got a $95 discount.

If you're considering the maint warranty and your dealer won't give you list price or less, I wonder if you couldn't just contact another dealer, whether local or out of state, and buy from them? That'll keep the gougers honest.

One thing to keep in mind: extended maint may or may not make sense, depending on the age/mileage on your Mini and what you're likely to get in benefits under the program. The Mini extended maint goes out to a max of 72 mo/100k mi from the date first sold as a new car. In my case, I will reach 72 mo and be well under 100k, so I basically bought 2 years of maint coverage which should get me a full brake service, a couple of oil services, and an inspection service, which I'm guessing is about breakeven.

Back to the original topic, the Extended Motorer Protection plan. To my knowledge, traditional extended warranties go into effect the day you buy them. Therefore, it makes no financial sense to buy one until your original warranty is about to expire. Otherwise, you're paying and using something that you already got for free. Does anyone know if anything is different with the Mini plan?

I think the best leverage is when you are within a couple months of the original 48 month warranty, or within a couple thousand miles of 50k, whichever comes first. Start shopping at that time, let the dealers know you're comparing prices, and let them compete for your business. As suggested above, I don't see why you couldn't contact dealers nationwide as part of your shopping process, unless Mini were to prohibit this. If you decide to buy from a non-local dealer, I've been told you may have to send your key in for them to verify the mileage reading, but that's not a problem as long as you have a spare.

Got it, criteria for MINI Extended Motorer Protection plan is under 45 months and under 45,000 miles or whichever comes first.

I bought the MINI Maintenance Warranty already for $1300.

So Mini's forcing the buyer to overlap 5 months/5k miles with the original 48 month/50k miles new car warranty? That would be...sly and not nice. Or is Mini forcing the buyer to commit to the Mini plan early but the coverage doesn't kick in until original warranty expires? That would also be sly, but nice.

I wonder if all Mini dealers will offer the Mini version or if they will continue to offer 3rd party plans. I bought my 3rd party plan (Zurich) on the last day my original warranty was still in effect, so I will get a full 4 years of extended coverage.

Sounds like MINI is trying to exempt first gen cars from the program

Ive asked before in a related thread to this topic.

How would Mini react to the mods on my car if I had the extended warranty through them? (as opposed to third party)
Think problem with supercharger...after market reducer pulley.
I cant imagine them wanting to repair it under warranty.

I am still not 100% clear on this it says, 45 months since first service?
MINI USA Extended Motorer Protection
see link above
Pretty sure it would start after oe warranty expires, but it sounds like Tio Berry is correct, cause otherwise only mid to late 06 builds qualify.

It's not "overlap"... when you buy a 6 yr/100k warranty, it is based off the original in service date and warranty terms, so you are paying for an extra 2 yrs/50k miles. It does not matter if you buy it on day 1 or just before the 4 yr warranty expires... it will not kick in until after the warranty expires. They just express the warranties in terms of time and mileage from original in service date.

The only "cost" is the fact that you lose the use of that money for a few years, and the possible return you could get investing it elsewhere.
