Beltline Blackout -- OUT MOTORING

Just applied the kit, and wanted to give it a big thumbs up . I'll take some pictures later.

The amount supplied would do the car and then half again, which was nice since the first panel I did (drivers door) I messed up, so I had plenty to redo it. Just takes patience.

Clean the chrome surface, apply the blackout tape, trim the edges, remove gloss layer.

My one hint, which after reading so many people's experience, they claim the Bonnet section is the hardest. I have an 02, and the bonnet section on mine is actually two pieces, split in the center. I found it easiest to simply do it as just that, two pieces. I'll try to show in picts later.

again, two for OUTMOTORING's blackout beltline kit

+1 for the OUTMOTORING kit!

I blacked out my red MCS (which may have been nearly identical to yours in the beginning) and had no trouble.

As long as you go slow, overlap when you get to an edge, then cut with an x-acto blade it is very simple. My MCS also has the split on the bonnet section. I feel like cutting the tape to do this part would help for those of you with later models.

Good post schreiber, and the car looks good. Keep it up.

This link tells the tale of the homemade splitter:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/interior-exterior/174519-new-front-lip-spoiler-splitter-and-hid-fogs.html

The wheels are:
17x7.5 Elbrus I04 BDC ICE (passenger)
17x7 O.Z. Racing Superturismo GT Bright Silver (driver)

Cruisin' on the passenger's side and racin' on the driver's side.

That post is here:

Awesome job!

For future references, you can go to homedepot and buy heavy duty black vinyl tape from 3M. It's rated for below 30s and it's for outdoor use. It's a big wide and you can do about 5 cars with one roll for $5. Cheaper to replace. The stuff outmotoring sells is too brittle and cracks.

You can do it in place, don't have to remove it. Also I would recommend getting Vinyl over outmotoring's kit. Which is basically electrical tape.

sorry I didnt get back to you sooner. No removal needed. I just cleaned the surface with a cloth, and applied the kit... easy as pie.

so would electrical tape be easier than the outmotoring kit? Reason being I want to do this so I can match up my freshly painted balck s-lites a bit better to my car. What do you guys think? electrical tape ftw!?

rjtrout2000, The real difference is in the finish. The outmotoring is a flat black, electric tape has a shine.

I left about 1.5" excess on each section and put my knife tip into the excess about 1/4" from the end. I pulled the blade through the material sideways (perpendicular as you would to actually cutting) and the tearing motion is what separated the two at the very tip and I was able to then pull it apart.

Honestly, not sure, as I sold the car with the kit installed. If it's giving you trouble, you can warm it up with a hair dryer, carefully though, as not to heat it too much.

I have to imagine, it peels off fairly easily.
