Okay, after a year of driving around with that ugly U.S. front license plate adapter (which, as a Michiganian, I don't need), I finally got myself a nice EU plate for the front. I also got the univeral bracket kit with it.
Are there any implications involved in drilling into that area reserved for the license plate? Some caution against it because drilling may damage air bag sensors on some cars. Any advice from those who have done this already?

Where did you end up getting your plate? I have been trying to order from sites in UK, but they have new laws that require your registration and "driving log" before they send you one. I have explained that I am in the US, but still do not get replies.

go to http://www.bimmian.com

they have a mini section there with accessories. I think if you purchase something there before Oct. 31 you get like 10% off.

stovepipejones,

I recently added the Euro plate on my car and the installation was simple. I actually did not have any pre-drilled holes and drilled out the two dimples on the front bumper cover. I would recommend using the two existing holes already there and heavy duty double stick tape on the ends. I did not like the look of the plate sitting out in the corners and I didn't want to drill additional holes that wouldn't be hidden by a normal license plate. I purchased some heavy duty double sided tape from Home Depot and it has held up great. Just don't wash your car right away after installing the tape and make sure the surface is clean and free of wax. Hope this helps.

Jason

Thanks Jason!
Being impatient, I went ahead and marched forward. I did drill holes at each end to keep the plate flush with the car, but I figure those holes will always be covered by either my EU plate or by the US adapter if I ever sell this thing to someone out of state. I do appreciate your reply.
By the way, the registration number I picked was LMW 28IF.
Any guesses?

My front plate adaptor came off with 2 screws and then I just put the EU frame on the car using those holes. I do not believe it is so easy on the S.

The original drill holes, unfortunately, did not line up with the universal frame I used for the EU plate. It all seemed to work out in the end, though.
Aesthetically speaking, it's a huge improvement over that horsey looking US plate adapter.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to have Euro style plates in illinois (front only obviously). If it has the correct number on it? Cause our stickers goes on our back plate, but we're required to have a front plate Thats why im still using my temp plate, cause theres only one and it goes on back.... which doesnt make sense why i can have 1 temp plate, but have to have 2 real plates. ugh

DING!
It's the same plate on the VW in the background of the cross-walk. I could go into all the "Paul Is Dead" crap involved with the plate number alone, but I'll save it. Good guess!
