Getting a 2009 now. Am I nut?

Dear all,

Four months ago, I post my message as below if you have time to take a look, but I decided to get Cooper S instead Cooper:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ini-911-a.html

After 2 months of searching, I decided to put in an order in July for 2009. My Cooper S is on its way. Now I sit back and think if am I make a wrong choice? Can someone say something to make me feel better? :(

The reason I ordered 2009 because I wasn't sure if I can wait until December or January to get 2010. The second reason because saleman didn't know the new price for 2010 would increase or not.

Now knowing everyone is getting 2010, while I get 2009 just a couple months before they do. Did I make a very very bad choice? I put in an order, that's mean I didn't get a discount for my 2009 or anything like that.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Tina

I say--be excited for getting a MINI, and an S to boot!

Seriously, I don't think you're making a bad decision at all. If anything, I'd say you're better off since you'll be merrily motoring "just a couple months before they" are.

Do you have an updated list of your build, all the additions, etc.?

No problems here. I just bought an 09 Cooper in July and have loved every minute of it. No regrets!

Looks like a good build. Personally I'd go with the manual over the auto, but that's me. Why are you concerned about the "value" dropping?

Well they say the prices for 2010 did go up so you made a wise choice there. You'll get it sooner so you made a wise choice there. If you had gotten a just-a-cooper you would be wondering if you should have gotten an S so you made a wise choice there. What's the problem? Be happy!

I can't drive stick shift. If I can, I wouldn't buy an automatic. About the "value", I heard and witness so many people buy a brand new car, they lose close to $10k within a year for selling that car. I concern about the value because I am not sure how long I will be able to keep my Mini. :( (such as: getting laid off, getting married and have kids, or etc.).

I also just got a 09 back in May. I look at it that it will be the most refined R56 before they start messing with things again. New parts = new things to go wrong.

The 2009 and 2010 are basically identical, so I don't see any reason not to go with a 2009. I would have myself, too bad I missed the ordering deadline for a 2009.

don't worry about the future. a 2010 isn't going to hold its value any longer than a 2009. the second you drive either off the lot, they drop in value the same amount.

Mine finally arrived last week after ordering in July. Enjoying every moment so far. Waiting for my clear bra to be put on to enjoy it some more. Just remember there will always be a newer version and only people with lots of $$$ can keep up with it.

MSRP difference for you is only $150, which is negligible. The 2010 will have a little better resale value. In a few months your 2009 will be looked upon as a one year old car.

However, there are better financing rates on the 2009s, so thats an advantage.

Either way, you will enjoy your MINI the same, so don't worry.

You are definitely making a mistake. You should wait for the 2018 hydrogen version.

But seriously, I got my Clubman S a few months earlier than I wanted to get it to take advantage of a lease deal they had in June. My VW lease was to expire in September, I ended up giving it to my friend to finish off the lease and took advantage of the deal. And let me tell you, I really LOVED my GTI. It was probably one of the favorite cars I think i've ever had. Truly loved every minute driving it. It took me a little time to get used to the Mini, but I do love it a lot now. I enjoy driving it very much (but I still miss the GTI a bit). I don't think they made enough changes to a 2010 that would tell me that you (or I) made a mistake. Enjoy the car, you're going to love it!

Not as much as you would think. Miles play a much bigger role in resale value then model year. Also, if you take it to a dealer, they will be able to look at the car (mainly VIN) and see that it is a late model year build. The difference in resale value of a similarly optioned 08 build 2009 and a 09 build 2010, both with 15,000 miles will be negligible.

If you're financing, I can tell you this month's special on 2009s is 1.9% for 60 months. That is a sweet deal compared to 1.9% for 36 months for July & August. To get that for an 2010, you'll have to wait another 12 months for when the 2011s come out.

That's the same time I ordered last year and I got a 2008. Nothing changed with the 2009s and not much is changing with the 2010s. Just a few minor details, and the overall price is going up a little. You didn't make a bad choice.

After looking at several older mini coopers that made their way to Guam a year or so ago. My wife and I decided to buy a Mini Cooper S. The problem is that Guam does not have a Mini cooper dealership. BMW sells and services mini coopers on Guam, and they only bring in a few at a time. We wound up special ordering our mini cooper directly from Germany. we placed our order and made a deposit in April 2009 with an estimated arrival time of October or November. Last week I called the dealer at BMW to check on the car's status. To both our surprise the car shipped early and we picked it up this past weekend. So I can understand your apprehension. The car is great, better than we had expected. The price with package add ons was $36,000. A little higher than what the States pays, but Guam is a small island in a big ocean, plus we paid for shipping the car from Germany. I'm glad we bought the mini.No Regrets!

If you're concerned, just look at the prices on autotrader.com or other used car sites. The Mini holds its value very well.

I just bought my 09 last month off the lot. He was a November 08 build...Been happy with him ever since. I don't worry about having the old model, I'm just happy I have a big Mini now. And about the kid thing, don't get rid of the mini just because you have kids. They can fit a car seat..

I hope you're not a nut, picking up my new 2009 tomorrow. Definitely worth it for the low financing.
