Stock HP & Torque Numbers for R56

I read many reports of dyno charts that HP is about 170 to the wheels and 190 torque to the wheels.

I see that MINIUSA still states 172HP/177TRQ, would that be at the wheels then and not at the crank as is commonly done on cars?

I would like to put in a down pipe and exhaust for my car. Which company offers a good product at a good price?

Thank You.

Riss Racing makes a great product in my opinion and it's pretty decently priced your other option for a downpipe that's cheap would be Alta but from what I've read alot of people have had problems.

Those are the official at the crank numbers. As you noticed MINI understates power dramatically.

Go with the Riss Racing downpipe. Great deal in the group buy section right now.

The 172hp that they advertise is crank horsepower...

However most people that get their cars dyno'd see much higher than that. MINI greatly underrates the cars it seems, especially with the torque number. A lot of people have seen over 200 ft-lbs to the WHEELS on a stock car.

Is there a problem with their website? I can't get in? Also, I see they use 2.5" piping as opposed to 3" like Alta, is there a reason why they went with 2.5"?

Thanks

Cuz 3" is too big for our tiny turbo and tiny 1.6.

Search the archives to see long winded debates about this...

I've also read some technical articles that state that using 3" tubing on a small displacement engine will cause a loss of "the scavenging effect" of exhaust gas through the pipe, causing a loss of power. Look it up, a very interesting read.

interesting, could you point me to the article.

Why would ALTA stick with the 3" tubing then?

if you use a bigger turbo like gt 28 rs then you need 3 inch, for the stock turbo 2.5 inch is more than enough

Because ALTA marketing swears by using "bigger is better" with every advertisement they make. WRONG!

There must be some reason the Milltek system is using 2.5" tubing and seeing bigger gains. It's all about the scavenging effect.

If you google search "exhaust scavenging effect" you'll find many articles. The phenomena is more prevalent in non-turbo cars, but it still exists to some degree on turbocharged vehicles.

+1. Alta is a marketing machine

"Well geez, Alta's exhaust is bigger than anyone else's on the market....it must be better!!" They get a ton of business for that reason.

Why do they remind me of Perrin from the land of Subie.

I digress.

3" is way to big. *nods*

Aye, I'm thinking of trying out a different exhaust, but the ALTA sounds amazing. I've gotten compliments a few times... mostly how it sounds like a "British racer" instead of a "four-banger." I dislike the word four banger... ah well.
