R56 Comfort Acces - Unlocking Passenger Door
Comfort Acces - Unlocking Passenger Door
Maybe I'm missing something...
I have 09 with comfort access. I keep the fob in my purse and I can unlock my door (the driver's door) just fine by pushing the little black button. But how do I also unlock the passenger's door?
I have it set so that if I were to unlock with the buttons on the fob that press #1 would unlock just the driver's door and press #2 would unlock the entire car, which is how I want it. Most of the time it's just me.
I thought the comfort access would work the same. If I pressed the driver's side button twice it would unlock the passenger's door as well. But it doesn't seem to be working out that way. Am I just not trying hard enough? Or should I be doing something else?

My old car (Mazda) would work this way but for some reason the MINI doesn't....I just changed it to always open both doors.
My friend with a 335 says his works the same way so I don't think it's possible.

As far as I can tell, you have to take the fob out and press the unlock button twice.
Otherwise it'd be useless as a security measure to only open the driver's side door..

Good point, I never thought about where my key is when I press that button. I'm going to try that later.
That doesn't work.
i have comfort access. i would suggest setting the computer to automatically unlock both doors. then set the computer to lock the doors when the car starts to drive. unless it is for security reasons, i dont see what is wrong with this solution.
oh, and if security is the reason, it doesn't matter. my wife is driving my car today. i needed to get in to remove my radar detector (wife hates the beeps). i was on the passenger side, she was on the driver side. she had the key and i pushed the button to open the doors and got in before she did. so an intruder could just wait till you get close to your door to open the opposite one. not much security there.

It probably works differently if it is set to unlock both doors.
yeah i've had this problem too, the passenger cant just press their button on their side.
But if you're taking out a date it gives you a perfectly good excuse to be the gentleman and open the door for them
beats saying "it should be open" after pressing the fob twice anyways

But I could give it a go!Anyway, thanks a lot everyone. It's good to know I wasn't crazy. Guess I'll have to find a more accessible pocket in my purse for my fob. Why is life so hard?
The way mine works is that I can set the remote to either open all doors, or set it so the first press of the unlock button will only open the driver's door. A second press of the unlock button within a second or two will unlock everything else. If this isn't working for you, then a drive to the dealer may be in order.
If my fob is in range of the comfort access system, my passenger could use the button on his side to unlock the passenger side of the door. I didn't notice this until my brother got in without me having to use the toggle switch to unlock (I usually press the button on the driver's door and use the toggle switch).
Robin Casady, I don't understand why you said "that doesn't work," maybe the 2007 comfort access systems differ from the rest (I have a 2008 MCS)?

K....I just press the button on whichever door I need to open...not really sure there's any other way. The button is designed to open that door only, unless programmed otherwise.

If your door is open when you hit the switch, it'll unlock the passenger door as well. If your door is shut, it'll lock, then you hit the switch again and it unlocks both doors. Crazy stuff. :D
Mine unlocks both doors no matter which rubber button I push.

I set my car this way and hung the fob on the driver side door handle. Then went around and tried opening the passenger door. It wouldn't open.
I set it to open both doors, and tried it again. This time the passenger could open the door with the black button.
So, if you have it set in Terrified Loner Mode, to let a passenger open the door, you have to pull out the fob and hit the unlock button twice or get in and hit the unlock toggle switch.
If you have it set in Gregarious Fool Mode, the passenger can open the door if the fob is within range of the car.
