M7 AGS-R Lid

So I've heard of folks talking about "rattling" coming from the AGS-R. At first I assumed they were speaking of the squeaking rear screw, which I don't experience.
However, I now believe it to be the lid. My lid refuses to stay centered and solidly in place. At idle, it rattles to an off-kilter position (just off enough that the rattling can be pretty annoying).

Has anyone come up with some creative solutions for fixing this. I really do love this intake... I'm very happy with it overall (and I've tried several at this point) especially after installing the RAM-2 scoop .
I'd be even happier if I could come up with a creative way to get the lid to stay in a fixed position. (And I'd rather not take the duct tape route thank you very much. )

Anyone?

(also note, I don't want this thread turning into an "intake options" thread; there are already PLENTY of those .. including one started today. I just am looking for some existing AGS-R owners that solved this issue. If not, I'll just come up with something myself; I'm currently reflecting on use of vacuum line sliced down the middle and slid over the lip all the way around)

Can you see where it is wearing on the fiberglass? On mine I can see where it had been rubbing in various places. I used a bicycle tube repair kit. I used the rubber squares and glued them to where it was rubbing. I never had the lid make noise though.

You guys must be perfectionists, what do you expect from a $800.00 intake ??

If you wanted quality you should have stepped up and spent some money.

I was actually just being a smart A**, but if you have $1400.00 plus shipping burning a hole in your pocket the "gruppe M" looks good.

Usually M7 stuff is great, Sorry if I offended you, they make quality parts. I just thought it was funny that the second most expensive intake you can buy has quality issues.

Technically its intake + heatshield for 629$. People seem to have huge misconception here. The heatshield runs 199$. This means the intake portion runs 429$ (though you wouldn't want one without the other). The DDM RIS is 448$. If you were to add the heatshield from M7, to compare apples to apples, you get 647$. So, they really aren't that different.

I personally like the M7 over the RIS (even after the slightly more involved install required for the M7 and the potential for additional tweaking).
Yes, both are pricey.. but my personal preference is the M7 over the DDM solution. I'm definitely disheartened by the fact that I still have to tweak it to make it work the way I want, but even so, I like it better than the DDM. Its all personal preference however.

take your intake off and look for small scuff marks. mine was rubbing buzzing
against the little wheel looking part on back side of valve cover also if you are running a boost port such as alta's it will rub. i trimmed small holes to relieve both no more rattles or buzz. as for the lid maybe some new a little larger
plastic push fasteners would secure it. i had to trim both the above for my m7
strut brace to fit properly.

What do you mean by little holes to relieve it. Where did you put the holes etc. Im only asking as im just about to buy one and would like to tackle head on when installing it.

Thanks.

It already has two drain holes in the bottom of the intake. just drill another hole where the intake is rubbing 3/4 inch drill bit is what i used, It will
relieve the contact and is not damaging to the intake just a couple more drain holes. I suggest installing the intake for a short period then when you remove it you will be able to see exactly where it's rubbing. when the intake was designed i don't think the protrusion on the valve cover was on the earlier models.

You right it wasn't. The part you are talking about is the Rocer cover purge valve. I believe it relieves the head of all the left over pressure from the engine being on. It doesn't mark the engine in any way does it?

no it will scratch the gelcoat on the fiberglass or paint if you already painted. no lasting damage or marks on engine.

Thats good then. You can never be too careful with dealers connecting the dots to find out you've had something in there when it comes time for warranty.

Thanks dude.

I thought the M7 ASG intake attached to the top of the engine. What is this intake in the picture?

The intake in the picture is a Gruppe M.

The M7 AGS-R looks like this.

I haven't bought a Cooper S yet, but so far, the M7 intake is the only one I would consider, and I've been looking.

EDIT: Sorry, old thread resurrect. Forgot I was searching.

Its not that old to be honest, no need to be sorry.

I have a friend that is selling his AGS-R now. I wish i had known that he was as i wouldn't have had to muck around byuing mine then getting it shipped etc. His is brand new. It was only on for a few hours before he took it off to send it to me for spraying. He decided whilst it was off that he wanted to leave the intake for now and go with a Hybrid turbo as he has found something out about it that he thinks is going to be the next best thing for the R56.

If you are interested then let me know, although we are both in the UK.
