Interior/Exterior Rear Aero Wing Install
Rear Aero Wing Install
Anyone have tips on an Aero Wing install?
The wing I received does not have the bolts like S wing. It's just flush and apparently only requires some type of adhesive that I also purchased. For the people that have the aero wing, did yours come like this and how sturdy is it?

Assuming you're talking about the Carbon Fiber JCW wing for the R53/R50 1st Gen MINI's, you need the Betalink Adhesive kit (paint cleaner, prep and adhesive). Betalink is a 2 compound epoxy/rubber like aerospace grade adhesive.
We installed our JCW wing ourselves in about 1 hour (we were going really slowly and carefully) and it wasn't too difficult. We took the extra time to mask off everything with blue 3M painter's tape as well as making off the base of the wing's vertical surfaces before applying any glue. Made clean up much easier as the glue is very tenacious.
Assuming you allow the Betalink to cure for the appropriate amount of time, it is VERY strong, probably as strong as the metal you're bonding it to. Been up to triple digits many times (not on public roads) and yup, the wing is still there. Be careful about using something that isn't the Betalink Adhesive, I've heard of a few folks having their JCW wings come off at speed using a lesser adhesive (ie. plain old silicone adhesive like the stuff used to seal car windows), though others seem have done OK. I decided not to take a chance.
If you need a Betalink Adhesive kit, I have a full kit (accidentally ended up with 2 kits for our DIY wing install) with all the prep stuff and with the applicator gun. I had it up for sale awhile back but the buyer backed off and it's just been sitting around unused.
E-mail me JCW@DaveChen.org if you're interested in the applicator gun or the adhesive (not sure which one you have).

Thanks for the info DaveC. I did purchase the Betalink Adhesive Kit so I think I should be fine. My spoiler is not carbon fiber so it's at the paint shop right now. Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday, I'll install it.
