Zippee shade or sunroof SOLID vinyl?

Debating whether to get those zipper shades things or to just go ahead and get the solid chekered vinyl sunroof design

Which one would block the sun the most? My wife has some serious pale skin and it's very sensitive to the sun, she wears spf80 prescribed by her Dr. lol

I paid $160 to get the sunroof limo tinted, but the sun still comes through? I don't think that would be possible with 5% tint, I think i got punked, but that's a whole different story that i'm still dealing with.

from a looks standpoint, i realize the chekered solid vinyl from cooper flags or the morristown mini accesories site would look nicer, but i wonder if that would block the sun completely or if it's still would come through the white squares?

has anyone tried the zipper shade method? how much does it really block the light from coming in?

any advise/experience with either method would be highly appreciated

Thanks

It depends on what you want. I personally like having the transparant sunroof. I bought the zippee shades for the summer because it gets so hot in vegas and being able to block out the sun helps a lot. But when the temp cools down I like having the sun come in but the sunroof closed. Ideally the internal shades would be solid, not mesh but until I can get a replacement the zippee shades work wonders.
They are easy to put in and take out and you can leave them in with the sunroof lifted open. They are not a perfect fit but work great for what I need.
Good luck!!

Here's what I did for the front sunroof and am quite happy with it. Buy a sunshade by Auto Expressions (Standard Size) (actually they come in pairs...you will only need one) for about $10. Pop it open and fit it into the space between the sunroof and the mesh screen (silver side out). Fits almost perfectly and works like a charm. Close the mesh screen of course once you get it positioned right and it becomes completely unnoticeable. Plus you can remove it next Fall when the sun's not so hot...or during the summer if you want to open it at night. I am using one of the bright silver ones.

Haven't tried it in the rear...but it might. I was just focusing on keeping the sun and heat off of the front, which this does very well.

With all the talk on the boards and aftermarket solutions I'm really surprised MINI hasn't offered a fully opaque sunroof shade. They love asking for ridiculous prices on seemingly obvious things so it seems in-line with their MO.

Ideally I'd like to have both a solid and a perforated sliding shade.

5% of the sun is still a lot of light...were you wanting it to be totally opaque? Also if it's sun exposure you're concerned about rahter than the light factor, you might check with your tinter to see if the tint has any "sunscreen" properties (i.e it blocks the harmful rays)

I have these from Stratmosphere. They fit perfect and roll up fairly compact. I have their front windshield shade as well.

Edit: They've having a 10% sale right now as well.

I love my zippee shades. I'm here in Florida and they've been a lifesaver for me this summer. Easy to put in and take out whenever you want. They really present the best of both worlds IMO.
