A little bit of a problem...

At work today, i was backing out of the lot when my car bottomed out and i heard a loud thud, like something was being ripped off of the car. I got out to see what happened and realized the whole jack point/block under the passenger side door had been ripped off of the bottom of my Mini. At first it looked like i could just shove it back in, but then i realized half of the clips on the block have snapped off.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Anyone have any idea how much a new one will cost? I havent had a chance to call the dealer yet, still at work.

Of course this happens the day my Alta SSK is coming in.

Sorry for any mispelling, ipod keyboard is a bit annoying for long texts!

$9.75 at Outmotoring. I bought a couple of spares just because.

Driving home last fall, late at night, going faster than I should have been - a BIG raccoon ran right in front of me. Big bang, dead raccoon. Ripped off the jacking block and an 8" piece of the plastic rocker panel cladding, and left the cladding hanging down almost to the road. Duct tape fixed it temporarily (ahh duct tape - - is there anything you can't do??).

Took it to a body shop a couple of days later, fearing a big bill. The body guy took a pair of snips and trimmed off the jagged rocker panel plastic, replaced the plastic clips that had pulled out and pronounced it "good as new". It took 5 minutes in the parking lot and you can't tell it was ever damaged. I never replaced the plastic jacking block (not yet, anyway).

Cost = $0. Gotta love that!
