Exterior Hood Latches (Jeep Style)

Anybody know of any aftermarket exterior hood latches (like the kind on a Hummer or a Jeep)???

I got a carbon fiber hood and I hate having to slam it to get it to latch right and I just cant figure out a suitable location for pins at the front.

Id like something like these, but Im afraid they'd be huge on the MINI. I prefer the Jeep latches to the hummer tho if I had to choose one.

Even some good, strong luggage or toolbox latches would do the trick (In theory but they'd probably look hella ghetto), I just want something lockable so people cant just steal my hood.

Some of the old British cars like the Morgan used thick leather straps to buckle the hood down....I know, I know, but just throwing out ideas.

^^^I was actually lookin at those but I think they're to "prehistoric" for a modern MINI. I know a guy with a classic who has them on his boot tho.

Nevermind though

I did some research and found that the Challenge latches from a pre 1996 Jeep Wrangler.

I posted in haste, shoulda looked around first.

they come in tab and t-handles, and a few different sizes.
roughly 6 to 17 dollars each, depending on size and style.

(thats one of the first places i've found it online, you can probably find it cheaper, different styles if you look around)

I've used this kind in the past on our rally car. They will fail in a year or so. Seems as though the rubber doesn't like sunlight & perishes.

Look for a set of Terry Springss available at Demon Tweeks among others.

I really want a set of these Aerocatch hood pin latches, but there really doesn't seem like any place on the hood flat enough and with metal close enough under that will hold the hood down well enough.

Not sure which we used on Jason's Brownmini. If he pops in here maybe he can tell you. Otherwise the car will be back here in the shop this weekend and I'll check.

Cool, but has anyone put any kind of hood pin on the MINI? I ask because I can't envision how it would be done, and where you would actually anchor the pin. I really like the look, and I've had them on all my other cars, so tell me how its done because the straps are a good second choice, but only if the pins can't be made to work.
