Advice on brake pads

Hi,

well, I'm having a little problem right now. I just pasted my 36,000 miles so I have no more maintenance. My light for my brakes just come on. I'm plaining of doing the job myself. I have the brake pads already. but I need step by step instruction. If you know how to do it exactly can you show me. can you make a video on youtube.com or respond to this. Also can you tell me or show me the tools you need. Thank you.

If your light came on, you'll also need at least one replacement sensor.

craftsman,
The sensors are about $20 each and there are two of them on the automobile. One sensor on a front wheel and one sensor on a rear wheel. Hopefully, you will only need one. If you don't want to replace the sensor, you can make sure its electrical circuit is open and physically tie it out of the way or remove it at the lead connection. You don't really need a little light to tell you when the pads are worn out.

By the way, it is good you are doing this work yourself. It is not difficult and you can save a nice chunk of dough

Blimey,
thanks for providing the links for craftsman

Correct - except for the light to go off, the circuit needs to be *closed* - not open - so you can cut off the sensor head and twist the wires together - but, as has been said, then you lose the functionality of the brake pad sensor and must rely on checking them "the old fashioned way" (which I do).

If you're checking them the "old fashioned way" why not just leave the sensor alone? (I know, you probably wore it out and didn't want to replace it)

... because you'll have a brake light on forever. OP said the light for his brakes came on - which means he wore through the circuit in one of the sensors already.

Blimey,
thanks for checking me on open vs. closed circuit. Am sick from sinus infection (that's why I have so much time to spend on-line)
